Hi! I'm going to be in Cesky Krumlov in mid-Sept and was wondering if it would be worth my while to go to Linz for a day? If so, how long by train from Cesky Krumlov or Cesky Budjevoice?
What historical attractions has Linz?
THANKS!
I went to Linz for some hours, 6 i think and it was great. They have a small train up to mountains where they have a museam inside a rock it is nice to see. And the city it is beautiful.
I went by train from Wien don't now more.
Hi !
I made a search on
www.oebb.at
and saw that the train takes about 6 hours one way, while with a car it is less than 2 hours.
It is simply the connections of the trains are terrible with long waiting times.
C.Budejovice / Budweis is nice as well and pretty close !
Trebon is nice as well, rather close but with bad connections as well...
Cool! Thanks! I think I'll probably hit Bratislava, Brno or Vienna, as it's less time...

The neo-Gothic Neuer Dom (New Cathedral), construction of which began in 1855, features exceptional stained glass windows, including a window depicting the history of the town. The cathedral was consecrated in 1924 and it's tower was limited to 134 meters as it was not permitted to surpass the Stephansdom (St. Stephen's Cathedral) in Vienna. It is withing walking distance from the Hauptplatz and worth visiting for a view of the interior. The New Cathedral is also known as the Immaculate Conception Cathedral (a much more impressive name if you ask me!).

mauthausen concentration camp was built in 1938 just after the austrian anschlus with germany. the purpose of the camp was to provide building materials for construction projects of the third reich and as an extermination camp for austria's jews. after the invasion of the soviet union russian prisoners of war were also interned here. 200,000 people entered mauthausen and over 100,000 died there. a disturbing reminder of the excesses of the nazi regime. an interesting website to visit to see before and after pictures of mauthausen is www.thirdreichruins.com.
I travelled to Linz for a day of sightseeing, and was hoping to get lots of pictures in the snow. As things stand I may not have any, as I made the mistake of having not checked that I had a memory card in my digital camera. I have got a disposable camera and took some photos with it, but it'll be a while before I finish the film... Ah well... Reason enough to go again!
L I N Z is the capital of Upper Austria and Austria's third-largest city. It is located in north Austria between Vienna and Salzburg.
It's a cosmopolitan city with a beautiful historical centre with elegant and wonderfully restored patrician houses. It is not well-known by tourists, but those who are making a bike trip along the Danube between Passau (Germany) and Vienna, often have a stop-over here.
