Hi!
I will spend a weekend in Linz and coming with a car.
Is there anywhere a place near or in the city centre
where I can park for free from friday to sunday?
Or maybe park a little outside of the city and have a
short walk to the centre.
Thank's for your help!

You can park free of charge near the banks of the Danube. Follow the signs
to Ars Electronica Center. Not far away there is a big car park.
You have to cross the bridge (Nibelungenbrücke) to get to the city center.
About 10 - 15 minutes to walk.

search Linke Brückenstrasse (near Urfahrer Friedhof= cemetery and church)

At the northern side of the Nibelungen bridge (or North bank of Linz) is the new Ars Electronica Center. It exhibits interactive computer wizardry and provides free internet access to the public. There are many computer simulations, with numerous staff on hand to explain what's going on. Unfortunately, the technology requires lots of maintenance and as a result, several displays were closed the day we went. Expect it and also expect some lines for certain exhibits. It's open from Wednesday to Sunday (see website for hours and prices).
Linz is a gem of a town about 190 KM from Vienna. It is the third most imporatnt town in Austria and is located in Upper Austria. It is well connected by rail and road to the major cities in Austria. The river Danube flows through the city and offers dramatic views of this historic city.
Linz has been selected as the cultural capital of Europe for the year 2009.
Since relatively very few tourists visit this city it is quiet, peaceful and less commercial as compared to Vienna.
This tiny gem is a must see for anyone who likes to visit a small, lively and beautiful European city.
These guys are completely engrossed in their game.Niti is trying to guess their next moves !
The outskirts of Linz are beautiful.Pretty cottages and fields everywhere.
Perhaps before the war this city of over 200,000 people was more splendid, which may have been the reason Hitler fell in love with it, but the war, and the subsequent post-war reconstruction, have left Linz a little grey and frayed around the edges. That's not to say it is without its attractions, though, and a walk down the Danube will show you that it still has plenty of its beauty intact, and the modern populace have worked hard to produce some wonderful tourist delights of their own, like the amazing Ars Electronica exhibition.
