The best-known trademark of the city is the 'Pöstlingberg', the hill overlooking the city. At 537 m, it offers a splendid view, which stretches from the rooftops of Linz to the Alps. At the top there is the Grotto Railway, installed in the tower of once mighty defensive fortifications.
After visiting the baroque church - a place of pilgrimage - you can stop at one of the restaurants nearby.
And then there is the Linz Zoological Gardens with creatures ranging from an exotic Africa ostrich colony to animals from the farm.

hartheim castle

hartheim castle, located near the village of alkoven austria, was built in 1600 by jacob von aspen. it is most famous for being the austrian center of the nazi T-4 euthanasia program. during the years of the third reich, this castle was fitted with a gas chamber for the extermination of the "feeble-minded". today hartheim castle is a center for the mentally impared. open to the public. a disturbing but a historically significant site for students of 20th century history.

Linz

I spent a short amount of time in Linz and I was surprised. When you drive into town, it definitely fits it's reputation of being an industrial town as far as looks go. However, when I was walking around, even though it was a very modern city (and one of the larger in Austria), it seemed like a small town.

"a glimpse of holocaust"

i made a side trip to linz upon the invitation of a family friend. the 2-hour train ride was an experience as it was my first time to travel alone in europe by train. in linz, i had the opportunity to visit a concentration camp. never again should we debase our humanity in the name of intolerance and racism!
