Mondsee's tourist office is just a block or so off of the main square and is open from 9am to 7pm Monday through Saturday and 9am to 1pm on Sundays during peak season. They can arrange lodging if you decide to stay in town where there are a couple hotels, a youth hostel and plenty of private rooms for rent.
The tourist office is located at Dr-Muller-Strasse 4

You may enter the main building and ask for a ticket.
There you may as well get refreshments in the way they were offered to hikers in the last 2 centuries, when they came to farmhouses and asked for food and drinks.
Prices are moderate, and you may sit inside the "Stube" , the livingroom where also all the family and the farmworkers used to eat.
windows were rather small

The windows of the ancient farmhouses were really rather small, as glass was very expensive, and larger windows would also let in more cold air in wintertime.
All buildings of that museum are in private posession, and the lady who owns it will mostly sell the tickets to the museum and serve your food and drinks.
No iron-nails were used to build the houses

Even the nails were made of wood in these ancient times, as iron was extremely expensive and not available mostly.
When you click on my pic, you may see these great wooden nails, that even add something like a decoration to the old wood.
Empress Maria Theresia

A monument in front of the church shows the Austrian Empress Maria Theresia, who obviously payed a visit to Mondsee.
I will make a research about the historical background of this monument.
BTW.: Empress Maria Theresia had 16 children...

A: "Mond means moon.
It is pronounced almost like the English word "moaned".

I guess it very much sounds like the English word "say" (the "a" is stretched..."
