Travel Tips for Mondsee

Seems like a great place to live

by acemj

Mondsee really seems like it would be a great place to live. After all, it's fairly close to Salzburg so you won't feel to isolated from a decent size city. It's very laid back and has a beautiful physical setting on the northwest edge of the Mondsee (the lake). It gets its share of tourists, but not as many as some of the other towns in the Salkammergut (the region around the glacier-carved lakes in this area). If you're into watersports, it has its share and if you're into mountain sports or hiking, both are within a short distance.

the bedroom of the farmer

by globetrott

The farmer's bedroom was a lot more comfortable than the ones of the ordinary workers, and still it looks very poor to us today...
People were much smaller these days, so simply make sure you will not hit the ceiling at some places of the house, when walking through.

the old barn

by globetrott

The old barn in the back of one of the buildings shows old carriages and a lot more farm-equipment of the ancient times.
You may walk all of the buildings on your own, without a guided tour.
And if you take pics, nobody will mind, in the contrary !

the small watermill

by globetrott

There is also a small watermill inside the museum.
You may not enter this mill, but simply walk around and have a look from outside.
Some millstones are there as well shown there in front of the building.

Mondesee - A beautiful lake

by PelLihi

"Intro"

The Mondsee is a beautiful lake in Upper Austria surrounded by mountains. You have various possibilities for sports activities, such as bike tours, hiking, paragliding and all sorts of water sports.

Around Mondsee there are also lots of other lakes to be visited like Attersee, Wolfgangsee.....just to name a few.
Take some time and explore the area.....it's worth it!!

Q: How do you pronounce Mondsee? "Thank you."

JessH profile photo

A: "Mond means moon. It is pronounced almost like the English word "moaned". See is a lake. I guess it very much sounds like the English word "say" (the "a" is stretched..."
