Travel Tips for Sankt Wolfgang im Salzkammergut

Swans and ducks

by victorwkf

While you are at St Wolfgang, you will be able to see swans and many ducks swimming in the beautiful Wolfgangsee lake. These add to the relaxing and laid back atmosphere of the town and surrounding landscape. A visit to St Wolfgang and surrounding is a good getaway from big cities such as Vienna and Salzburg.

The town of Strobl

by victorwkf

In order to reach St Wolfgang by road (e.g. car or taking the Postbus), you will pass by the town of Strobl, which is less well known. If you have time, you should spend a while at this charming town which offer good views of the surrounding mountains. In fact, the area around the Postbus bus terminal at Strobl offers some good views (see photos) while you wait to transfer buses from St Wolfgang back to Salzburg :)

technical details of the trains

by globetrott

All the great technique may easily be seen from outside, and not at all hidden, like other trains do.

Everything looks so completely in perfect order !

The most of the track has just 1 rail and the opposite trains will have to wait in one of the 2 stations on the way up to Schafberg - summit.

St Wolfgang Centre

by sandysmith

The village of St Wolgang has narrow roads and as you can see in the picture there is a small harbour area. Thankfully its pedestrianised - there's no way traffic could get past all those people though. Enlarge the pic to see all the tourists!

The older houses of St. Wolfgang.

by seamandrew

Some of the buildings in Sankt Wolfgang date back to the 16th century. The church dates back the the 10th century, but to see houses that people still live in standing from such a long time ago is quite astonishing.

This house pictured here was built in 1528. The architecture is quite unique to Austria and from what I could tell, the structure still seemed very sound. Then again, I'm no engineer or architect.
