Hotel Weisses Rössl is the major attraction for St. Wolfgang, as so plenty of people will remember the great and popular songs of the operetta.
-------------------------------------------------------------- Every spot in town is filled with hotels, restaurants and souvenirshops.
You will have to leave your car outside and walk through town.
On my pic is the famous hotel and it's great terrace on the left !
Edelweiss is an alpine flower that grows throughout this region usually at altitudes from around 5000 to 8000 feet. The plant is a perennial from a scientific standpoint, but from a cultural and mythological standpoint it is revered as a love charm, a medicinal wonder-flower and a Talisman to ward against evil spirits.
The emperor used the train ONLY ONCE - and he certainly said afterwards ( like he always used to say ) :
"...Es war sehr schön, es hat mich sehr gefreut..."
(It was very nice, I enjoyed it a lot )
So the company always had a seperate saloon-wagon for the emperor, but did never use it again.
Nowadays this saloon-wagon of the emperor is used as a part of a kiosk ( it is rather a storage room) and you may see it just a few meters from the train-station.
This is the train, and you may see, how steep the rails are at some places.
Make up your mind, BEFORE you buy your train ticket !
There are combination-tickets available ONLY at the trainstation down in the village
including Breakfast or lodging in the hotel.
and in combination with the train-ticket you really save about 5-12 €uro per person
The church of St. Wolfgang is built on a small terrace, overlooking the hotel Weisses R?ssl
You may see it from inside ONLY at certain times.
The church was built in 1477 and in 1676 the famous altar by Schwanthaler was added
