In the main square, you'll find the Hotel-Gasthof Weisser Bar where I had a really delicious salad. The interior of the restaurant is pretty basic, but neat and clean. There's a bar, some outdoor seating and plenty of tables inside. I had this salad seen in the picture with cranberries and fried camembert. YUM!!
The road descends and makes a bend and you start to hear the music and then suddenly find yourself in the central place of Sankt Wolfgang. Here is the starting point - you have the nice wooded direction pole (of course - as the patron saint was a wood carver), you have the church, the most expensive two hotels (The Black Stalion and The White Horse), my favourite restaurant (Weisser-Bar, which is actually the restaurant of the Gasthaus(Hotel) with the same name), a cafeteria, another restaurant, a bank .. and from time to time a lot of people, coming from all around to attend events that are taking place here. Each time I was there I caught some event, people all ages flock and have great time. Imagine this quiet place packed with people :)

Its worth wandering around St Gilgen just to admire the beautiful flowers, balconies and oreils on the buildings. For example the beautiful bay window on this building in the Mozartplatz (opposite the Town Hall). The building itself is interesting as it houses a musical instrument museum.
The museum is open:
Mon-Fri 09.00a.m.-12.00 + 02.00p.m.-06.00p.m. Sat. 09.00a.m.-01.00p.m.
The museum is closed between Nov 12th and Dec 7th
entry-fee is 2,50-4,00 Euros
This hotel is the setting for the Operetta produced by two Berliners.
Josepha, owner of The White Horse Inn, is divided in her affections between her head-waiter Leopold and Dr Siedler, a richer man. She chooses the former, after intervention from the Emperor.
Just about 200 meters below the top of Schafberg, you will see this " Heavens-door " - it is a very steep way down into the valley.
The small path is mostly secured by iron ropes fixed to the rocks like a hand-rail.
The lake in the background is Attersee.
Just be careful, as a sign shows that this way down is very dangerous for un-experienced climbers !!
