Sesselträger - " chair-porters "

It was the usual way for rich people to explore the mountains in the Salzkammergut to hire people to carry them up the mountains in a chair like the one on my picture:
2 strong sticks were put into the fixtures and the tourists did not have to climb up the mountains themselves.
"Sesselträger" was a real profession and a good income untill the construction of the Schafbergbahn a bit more than 110 years ago.

Sankt Wolfgang's economy

The economy of Sankt Wolfgang depends heavily on tourism. In fact, this is their largest industry. Because of the small size of the town, there's really not much more room for anything else. However, many of the fields at the base of the surrounding mountains, and the mountain area itself, has been set aside for farming. So to some degree, farming has some importance as well. So, help the wonderful people of Sankt Wolfgang out by stopping by for a weekend visit and eating all the dairy and produce you can fit into your tummy!
Hotel Mirabell

When you are walking along the main road from St Wolfgang town to the Schafberg train station (about 10 minutes walk), you will pass by Hotel Mirabell at the side of the road. The interesting thing about this hotel is that the architecture is very beautiful and colour, and there are lots of colourful flowers. Even the stairways leading up to the hotel is covered with beautiful green plants as seen from the photos. You might even want to consider staying here for a while. Also, there is a big park with good views just across the road, and there is a clay tennis court just next to the hotel.
Pilgrimage Church Interior

The church is not always open but if you do get a chance to see inside the interior will leave you spellbound with its richness of colour and baroque treasures. The ceiling is stunning with its golden colours and just take a look at the ornate pulpit and organ.
Hotel Schwarzes Rossl (The Black Horse)

Next to the famous Im Weissen Rossl (White Horse Inn), there is another hotel called Hotel Schwarzes Rossl (The Black Horse). Interesting because "white" and "dark" are next to each other :)
Similar to the White Horse Inn, The Black Horse is conveniently located in the town centre area and the architecture/facade is very classical and beautiful. However, The Black Horse does not have the view of the Wolfgangsee lake as it is not located at the waterfront area. The website of the hotel is below if you are interested.
