Travel Tips for Sankt Wolfgang im Salzkammergut
St. Wolfgang & Weisses Rössl
by globetrott
Hotel Weisses R?ssl offers a terrace directely on the lake of St. Wolfgang
Weisses R?ssl means WHITE HORSE
Prices are pretty high in St. Wolfgang anyway, and in Weisses R?ssl they are even a bit higher...
BUT everyone wants to go there anyway, and most of the tourists also think of a certain melody :
Im weissen R?ssel am Wolfgangsee, da steht das Gl?ck vor der T?r, und ruft Dir zu : "Guten Morgen, im Weissen R?ssl am See"
(I tried to translate, but ALL of the certain poetry would be lost...)
Maybe someone has an apropriate way to translate ??
Water sports are big at the Wolfgangsee
by seamandrew
One of many things to do in Sankt Wolfgang are a variety of water sports. From water skiing, to swimming, wather sport enthusiasts are sure to have a great time here. Of course, this only applies during the warmer months of the year. There are various places to rent things in and about Sankt Wolfgang. Go to the website for more details.
Leg Paddle Boats at Wolfgangsee
by victorwkf
There are some leg paddle boats available for ride on the Wolfgangsee (which I think will cost 5 euros). They are located at the shore of the lake just next to the famous Im Weissen Rossel (Dark Horse Inn) at the St Wolfgang town centre. This boat ride will be the best during the warm summer weather.
Promenade
by acemj
On the western side of town on the way toward the small train station that has departures exclusively to the top of Schafberg, the mountain that presides above the town, you'll find a small waterfront promenade. This is a great spot to take pictures of the Pilgrimmage church and the town itself or just to come and relax on one of the many wooden benches. Boats also dock here and there is even a stage where performances of Ralph Benatsky's famous comic opera, The White Horse Inn, occasionally entertain the crowds.
Schafberg Cog Railway
by sandysmith
Schafberg Cog Railway, built over 100 years ago, climbs the 5,300ft Schafberg mountain the easy way. A ride on this nostagic train is a must do - especially for those fans of the Sound of Music tour - I'm sure you'll recognise it from the film. Check the website for up to date fares and timetables.
