Travel Tips for Steyr

Steyr - Garsten Monastery, some details

by Martin_S.

Here you can see the amount of detail that was put into even the simplest of things. This is not the altar or anything signifigant, just a corner somewhere in the Cathedral, but take a look at all the small and large details.

"Modernized" gothic buildings

by MEdelmann

These buildings are good examples, how people try to "modernize" their houses. the fassade was built in a later century, while the rest was built before ..... So you will see a lot of houses with a baroque front - but the house itself is from gothic origin and from inside you still have gothic colums.

Steyr - iron signs

by Martin_S.

Many establishments have their "neon" signs hanging out for all to see, but here in Steyr, possibly because of their history in the iron trade, have them in iron. This is just an example of a few of the signs all along the street.

At least more gothic buildings ....

by MEdelmann

Here you can see more of this wonderful gothic houses .... they have really become rarely in Austria....

due to the "modernization" of the houses, the wars and so on.....

Luckily Steyr is a great except - click on the picture to see the details of them ...

Steyr - water wheel

by Martin_S.

This is a restored water wheel for producing power and was used in the iron mill. Today the wheel is enclosed in a perspex structure to protect it but from the walkway surrounding it you can see it still working away today.
