Health Spas
by Tolik
Bad Gastein owes its status as one of Europe's leading spa resorts to two factors: firstly, there are the 17 thermal springs, emerging 1,000 meters above sea level at the foot of the Graukogel, with a temperature of between 45 and 51degreesCelsius and a volume of 5 million liters per day - then, there are the Thermal Galleries in Böckstein, a former gold mine which is now the setting for rest cures in a super-heated.
And the secret of its success:
radon, an inert gas producing mildly radioactive emissions. Because of its ultra short decay period ( 30 minutes) and its inherent inert-gas characteristic of not forming a chemical bond with any other elements, it only resides in the body for a short period of time, during which, however, it has a healing, regenerative effect on tissue, whilst stimulating the metabolic processes. The waters of the Gastein Thermal Springs and the air of the Thermal Galleries are the only natural radon occurrences of this intensity in Central Europe! It has even been bottled as mineral water and exported throughout the world.
The most unusual spa is the healing mine in Böckstein; it’s an abandoned gold mine with very special air.
Bad Gastein streets

Bad Gastein streets, steep slopes and fairy tale location create a beautiful town to explore. Bad Gastein Wasserfall (Waterfall) - one of the province's most beautiful falls - and also the emblem of Bad Gastein.
Use your legs!
by Manara
In Summer the Gastein area is a paradise for hikers.
One of the best aspects of this valley is that there are many chairlifts and gondolas to take one up on the mountains, and from the highest stations, most of them at about 2000 metres above sea level, it is possible to follow paths with breathtaking views. Hiking shoes, and of course clothes that can face the sudden weather changes that are so frequent in the mountains.
Dorffest
by Bregman
If you travel in the countryside be on the lookout for country fairs, or Dorffest. Besides the many stands selling the local dishes you could see a parade. You'll have a chance to see how the locals earn their living and have a glimpse of traditional customs and the old way of life.
One night in Badgastein
by amraam75
I visited Badgastein briefly with couple of friends. We we're actully on our way to Trieste (Italy) and needed just a nice hotel for one night.
We booked us in Hotel Lindenhof and it was great. It's managed by elder woman (we called her 'grandma').
Beds we're comfortable and breakfast delicious.
Price was something like 30 EUR per person.
