Suggestions on itinerary

by CaGal

Hi,

We are a family of 4...2 kids 12 and 10 planning on a 3-4 day trip of Salzburg

Day 1 tour of the city...
Day 2 day trip to the Herrenchiemsee castle, plan
to tke the train and buy the bayern discount
ticket in Salzburg
Day 3 Day trip to Hallstatt...see the city sights,
trip to salt mines and luge ride
Day 4 Spend some more time in Salzburg and take a
train to Vienna.

Any other suggestions? Pl suggest any hotels in Salzburg? For the day trips, is it better to take the train or drive? Welcome any suggestions...thanks.

Twice so far we have stayed in a holiday apartment just on the other side of the border, very close to Salzburg. With two kids this would be a good alternative to a city hotel. To get the rolls for breakfast you walk into Austria, from one country to another. We had an American student staying with us the first time there, he loved this.
There are buses into Salzburg, but with the other trips you plan a car would be more convenient.
However, I would take the train to Vienna, or go on an organized tour.

We stayed in Haus Gertrud, but you have to check if it still available on the times you plan to go.

Travel Tips for Salzburg

Salzburg General View. To...

by Khalid_Sabir

Salzburg General View. To the Right a big mountain rock hosts Salzburg Casino. Elevator to resturant and Casino runs up and down inside the Rock Mountain. At the enterance of the Elevator do not forget to stop and have Ice Cream. Even if its very cold or very hot in Salzburg. This the right place to see all young mens and girls of Salzburg. It is the most romance place you can visit in Salzburg. No matter it is very small but very romance. It gets very beautiful with all youth at night attracting each others.

The Moenchsberg

by HORSCHECK

Climb the Moenchsberg and wander around the nice footpaths.
On clear days the Moenchsberg offers scenic views to the Alps on the one side and the Old Town of Salzburg (see photo), the river Salzach with the Kapuzinerberg on the other side.

Inside The Dom...

I was really mesmerized by what I saw ! I took my own sweet times in taking all the aspects or rather the decorations inside The Dom.
Not that I know the names of what I saw, do I have to ? GOD ! I'm not doing a thesis okay !
Bruno just watching me, smiling to himself; maybe thinking that "oh, another visitor has been 'eaten' by my hometown !"...

Salzburg has always been a crossroads between different cultural tendencies: German traditions came under Italian influence and merged with the lifestyle characteristic of the old Habsburg monarchy.

Map of Salzburg

by HORSCHECK

Take a free map of Salzburg at the tourist information. It is good for orientation purposes and includes the location of the main sights. The tourist information has also a special map about car parks in the city. Parking your car an be a problem during the high season in summer.
Salzburg has some tourist information offices. Locations are at the Main Station, in the Old Town (Mozartplatz 5) and during high season near the motorway exits of the A1 (Exit Centre) and A3 (Exit South).
