Traditional and Friendly

I stayed here for just one night en route to Vienna. I chose it because it's close to the Railway Station and Airport Bus. On arrival, we were given a warm welcome by a lady wearing traditional dress. The lobby was bright and welcoming and had lots of literature about things to do in the Salzburg area.

Our standard room was quite large and furnished in traditional Austrian style. Everything was very well planned and there were double-aspect windows which opened for fresh air, although noise from the busy road outside could be a problem if you're a light sleeper. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was sparkling clean and well-equipped, with everything in the right place. The only thing missing was coffee/tea making facilities.

Breakfast was included in our room rate and was served in a very nice room, with plenty of varied and delicious food on offer.

One possible disadvantage was the distance of the hotel from the Old Town. It took us about 25 minutes to walk it, although it would be less if you're young and fit. It is, however, close to the Mirabell Palace and Gardens.

We arrived back late in the evening, after the bar had closed but the night manager made me a cup of coffee to take up to our room.

During such a short stay, we didn't get to sample everything on offer but it was a welcoming and snug place to stay and I would happily stay there again.

Very comfortable indeed

Whilst not in the centre this is still within walking distance of the city.
Close to the station.
Small lobby but large elegant rooms.
Food superb.

Biggest surprise - the lift goes to the top floor where there is a huge sauna suite which is very popular with the locals. I opened the door and half Salzburg was there!

Very nice hotel with very friendly staff

by A TripAdvisor Member

This Best Western Hotel is a good choice for a stay in Salzburg. The room was very nice and the staff was very friendly, especially at the reception desk. The hotel is near to the train-station and a 10-15 minute-walk from the old-town. I would certainly recommend it!

Very Good Place to stay

by A TripAdvisor Member

We recommend this hotel everybody who take a trip to salzburg.

It is a five minute walk from the station, and very easy to find. The room we had was large, with a separate seating area and a huge bathroom. We had no problems with neighbouring room noise (although we were at the end of the corridor), and the aircon was silent!

It is a 10/15 minute walk to the town centre.

The breakfast was very good - lots of choice and plenty of food.

All in all, a very comfortable hotel with a nice Wellness-Area on the top floor. But the floor in our room could be a little bit cleaner.

Great Service, Great Breakfast

by A TripAdvisor Member

My wife and I stayed at this hotel over a long weekend. Our room was extremely comfortable, the wellness area was great, and the organic buffet breakfast was the best we've had in a year and a half of traveling around and staying in hotels in Europe. The hotel is also conveniently located within walking distance of the main train station and the old city area where most of Salzburg's attractions are.

Handy for train tavellers

We were a family of 2 adults and 2 children (9 and 11) and we found the Zum Hirschen to be of terrific value. The location was great for us as we were using our Eurorail Pass and it was only a five minute walk to the station. A pleasant walk into the Old City. The rooms were lovely and clean and the breakfast terrific.

Highly recommmend this hotel.

The best pillows we have ever slept on

by A TripAdvisor Member

We chose this hotel from a last-minute room booking service, and selected it based on its description (which was accurate) and its location close to the railway station, as we were looking for accommodation within walking distance. Once we had oriented ourselves we found it easily.

The receptionist was very helpful indeed; on checking in we enquired about concerts in Salzburg and she was able to immediately arrange tickets for us for the following night. On several occasions we had to ask her for directions; on each occasion she wrote on a map of the city from a tear-off pad of maps and gave us the annotated map, a convenience we did not see anywhere else on our trip.

The rooms were just great; a very good size, with excellent bathrooms and good furniture. There were also the best lit hotel rooms I have experienced; dimly lit hotels have become a pet hate of mine, and here we had the opposite - lots of light, when we wanted it, and just a little when we wanted it. The rooms had two sets of well fitting double glazed windows, so even though our rooms looked out onto a fairly busy road, they were very quiet.

The beds were also very comfortable, but the pillows were in a class of their own -- simply the most comfortable we have ever found anywhere.

We love Salzburg and now we have found a great little hotel which we hope we will be able to revist many times.

First class near the Station

by TripAdvisor Member Gresham

Stayed here for one night and absolutely delighted. Excellent evening meal and great breakfast. Also enjoyed the sauna facilities on the top floor - quite an unexpected treat. Our room was spotless and plenty of space. We will definitely stay here again when opportunity presents itself.

The hotel is ideal for the railway station and that means it's quite a walk into the centre of Salzburg but we managed it twice and enjoyed the walk alongside the river.

Nice Hotel

by TripAdvisor Member savannah300

I stayed at the Zum Hirschen at the end of February this year and really loved it. It was a last minute choise and a good one. The staff was very pleasant and the food was great. This is a very European older hotel with alot of charm and atmosphere. My room was a suite of sorts with a sitting area separated from the bedroom by a hall and the bath. It was very homey and clean. I would certainly stay here again if I go back to Salzburg.

Best Hotel Ever....Will definately return.

Just came home from our two and half week vaction in Germany with three days in Salzburg, Austria. This hotel was outstanding. The staff was more than welcoming, accomodating and very informative. Accomodations were impressive for the one of the least expensive 4* hotels in the area.
This hotel was perfectly situated within walking distance to the main train station, Mirabell Gardens, the old city centre, early morning Thursday market and various sound of music tourist points. We wallked everywhere, no problem.

Even if you choose to not stay, you must go to the restaurant for breakfast, dinner or lunch. All the food and drinks are BIO, organically grown and prepared. The inclusive breadfast buffet was also very impressive, having a wide variety of foods and beverages. They will even prepare eggs and egg dishes upon request.

The included Saunas and solarium, was also a wonderful bonus at the end of our bussy days.

The hotel was not made out to be a large, chain hotel, but in fact was quite nicely culturized to traditional austrain decorating and cusine.

In the lobby they have a pamphlet of various popular tours including tours of the mountains, salt mines, sound of music filming sights, etc. for a decent rate. We adventured on the salt mines tour and the sound of music tour. It was great, the tour giudes from Panorama Tours was funny, spoke english very well and were very knowledable. Overall it was the best deal you can get for your money. Highly reccomended.
