Wander into the Land of Mozart
by adambeau
Without a doubt, go see the Residenzplatz.... or, Hohensalzburg, or St. Peter's Cemetary... no, the Salzburg Cathedral is a must... no, don't forget the Glockenspiel... no, you must dine at Sacher Cafe and try those sacher tortes... umm..... Mozartplatz is a must see, and his Geburtshaus. (ok...you decide.) In addition to the most pleasurable people residing in Baroque Salzburg, the landscape that cradles this remarkable city makes my heart beat a little faster with every treasured memory.

Oldest Restaurant and Pharmacy
by WrigleyTodd
Salzburg is home to the oldest restaurant in Europe... Peterstiftkeller, which originated circa 803 and still serves food and drink today. Although, I hear the service isn't that great. Also, from what I understand, Europe's oldest pharmacy is also in town. Not sure if it is the oldest, or just old, but it has some appeal like that. So, if you like historic pharmacies... check it out. Probably not for everyone.
Coffee House Habits
by hunterV
One of the truly Austrian habits is to spend some time weekly at the coffeehouse.
"It's Austria!", they say.
It's really relaxing to sit and drink nice coffee with a piece of cake!
Isn't it marvelous!
Plan your wardrobe to include layers.
by Georgiantraveler
Remember if you are going to travel via train(and doing so is quite comfortable and affordable), to bring two or three small bags that can be carried and loaded quickly. German / Austrian rail run on the most efficient and unforgiving schedule. It is always easier to toss a small bag to a helping hand to get on board before the train departs, and Most trunks in European autos are not quite as large US, so smaller bags can be manipulated as needed. The weather throughtout all of Europe can change on a dime, especially in the Summer. I've seen from 42 - 98 (F) degrees in June. Make sure you bring light to medium clothing to layer, so that you are not strapped with a heavy coat that you must carry even if it never gets cold. A medium windbreaker should be sufficient on even cooler days when paired with an undershirt, dress shirt and sweater. Powdered Gatorade packets and Peppermint Lifesavers are a highly mobile, simple remedy to many gastric problems you may have in traveling. Gatorade is wonderful for those times you cannot hold anything else down, but you have to keep going (The show must go on, especially on a tour package).
