There is no night train from Salzburg to Praha. I don't know where you found this (or where you looked).
You can already book tickets for mid may on the Austrian Railways website, where advance purchase tickets for 39,- are available. So head over to www.oebb.at, and you'll be at the right place to get your tickets.

What you found on www.oebb.at was not a night train. A night train is not the same as travelling overnight.
Pay attention to the details of the route suggested. You can indeed leave Salzburg at 18:10 and arrive in Praha at 8:28 (although on weekdays you can get there two hours earlier), however this is a route that involves several changes, and a very long layover in the middle of the night. You will be spending six hours in the middle of the night in Protivin, where you might not even be able to stay in the station.I would never consider doing this, especially with a child.
The best option to get from Salzbrug to Praha is to travel by day, and you can allready book tickets for that.
As to wether a vorteilscard is useful I can't help you. The Vorteilscard seems to be aimed at residents, so I don't know I you can get one without an Austrian adress.
Travel Tips for Salzburg
Telephones
by kentishgirl
Suprisingly the payphones in Salzburg take coins and/or cards!
Anyhow, the best way I always find to call home is to buy a prepaid calling card.
This one I bought in Austria Tabak...which are located all across the city.
On Mozartplatz there is an internet cafe and they also offer pre paid telephone cards especially for long distance calls.

The *Gertredegasse* is Salzburg's most elegent street for strolling and shoping. The oldest remaining building dates back 13th centuries. The entire length of the Getreidegasse is bedecked with decorative cast iron shop signs portraying posthorn etc.

When reaching to the top of the hill, we found a really nice restaurant, Stadtalm the name. Had our meals there.
So, the photo showing me :..."My tummy was full...with some nice foods at this nice restaurant, on this nice hill...over-looking Salzburg...." kinda atmosphere.
Die alte f.e.Hofapotheke - interior

The old pharmacy has a really great interior - but they also have a sign on the door saying : NO PHOTOGRAPHY !!! It is a pity, but understandable, as business is rather heavy and tourists looking around and taking pics would disturb the business a lot

Yes, people dress up to drink beer! Don't be afraid to investigate any events going on while you are visiting. I stumbled on this huge tent set up near the Dom, and there was my oompah band and locals in period dress serving and drinking Stiegl-Bier (the local beer of Salzburg) as well as a lot of people enjoying themselves on a lovely afternoon in Salzburg! What a pleasant surprise! Look for many of these! You can see the top of this tent in my first picture on this page, with the vista of Salzburg.
