Afraid I cant recommend this hotel..
Perhaps because i had a bad location , facing the street and a busy bus stop that seemed to be busy all night and all morning and the area seemed to be a gathering place for teenagers on weekend. Good thing is hotel was cheap ( about $ 65 a night). Did not include parking, did not include breakfast. Free coffee downstairs but you had to stay in lobby area to drink the coffee( although i brought mine to my room anyway). Place is very old and looks and feels old. Old red out of date hotel carpet in room... hair dryer didnt work. Dated furniture......furniture too sparse for the space. The room was large but not enough furniture in it to take up the space, just felt weird inside there. Paint on wall was a sick looking yellow and they tried to spruce it up with some horizontal lines in middle of the wall, but they were crooked...just looked not good overall.
Unique Quality: Close to major sites , walking distance to Mozart residences and the old town

More on this Austrotel ... (rooms)
As mentioned in the previous tip I had a very noisy room the first night. Fortunately they gave me a quiet room to the back the next morning. The view was not particularly nice, though, and the room was also smaller than the first one. But still large enough!
The first room had a spacious (and I mean SPACIOUS) bathroom with a tub, the second room had a quite small bathroom with shower only. Not a problem, however, it was sufficient.
While the public areas like the lobby were nicely renovated I think the rooms were a bit outdated, the furniture was quite old and show signs of usage. It was very clean, though.
I would stay there again, but not for the official rates (up to 210 Euro per room and night). Fortunately I got a very cheap rate through my travel agency and a stay 4, pay 3 nights deal.

Ups and downs
This four star hotel enjoys a central location in the New Town, across from Mirabell garden. The major bus lines stop in front of the hotel - that means it is located at a busy street. The first night I had a room facing the street and the noise was almost unbearable. I checked a couple of times if the window was really closed. Yes, it was. I asked for a room to the back next morning and fortunately they had one.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful (not always knowledgeable, though). The lobby and lounge had a vaulted ceiling - quite nice architecture. They provided tea, coffee and mineral water/juice for free in the lounge which was a nice treat. An internet terminal in the lobby was free as well, but I had huge problems accessing my email provider's website. Somehow it didn't always work properly with other websites as well.
Unique Quality: Breakfast was ok but nothing special. Tea was lousy, coffee very good. Just wish they'd had a larger variety of cheese, fruit etc. They don't have a restaurant but give you excellent advice on nearby restaurants.

Top location
This hotel was great. The room was huge for what we paid for it and the tram (number 2)from the airport conveniently drops you right outside. It is located in the new town, right opposite the Mirabelle Gardens and a 5-10 minute walk across the Salzach River to the Old Town and sights. Room was clean and tidy but can be a little noisey at night.
Unique Quality: Perfect location and cheap cheap cheap

Feels Like Home In Salzburg
My family and I have stayed at the Austrotel on two different trips. The location cannot be beat. It is steps away from Mirabell Gardens and a short bus ride or walk to the Old Town. The staff is very friendly and they make you feel at home. The breakfast they serve is 1st class. The hostess goes out of her way to make you feel special. She brought my 13 year old son a pot of hot chocolate, just in case he wanted some!! I would not stay anywhere else in Salzburg.

Nice clean hotel, delicious breakfast
Even though the building is old, the rooms are renovated, clean and nicely decorated. Breakfast is very good and fulfilling.
The hotel is located across Mirabel Palace, and the bus station. It makes it easy to go to and from train station (3 bus stops), and taking any bus tours - the meeting place is just around the corner.
Even though the street is somewhat busy, we did not have a problem with noise.
I would recommend this hotel.
