Bus 150 from Salzburg to St Wolfgang

by tpg

Apart from a single trip ticket which can be purchased from the driver, are there other options like a 1-day return ticket or single day ticket which allows intermediate stops? What are the prices and where can it be purchased in advance?

Yes, you can purchase a return ticket from the driver (twice the price of a one-way ticket) or (I think) a "Tageskarte" which will allow you to hop on and off as much as you like along that route. The Tageskarte usually costs the same as the return ticket anyway. If you ask for a Tageskarte von Salzburg nach Sankt Wolfgang the driver will probably figure out what you want!

I tried to find the prices for these tickets online but the website that used to give them no longer does so. Last time I did the trip I think it was about 7 euros one way, to give you an idea of the price. Note too that if you already have a valid ticket for the Salzburg city area (Kernzone) such as a Salzburg card, you will only have to pay for the external zones beyond that, so that will save you a little.

Bus 150 does not go directly to St.Wolfgang.Do I pay for the first ride to Strobl, and then another ticket for the connecting bus?If it is just one ticket for the whole trip,do I just show the ticket to the driver of the connecting bus or do I have to validate it at the machine. Is Strobl the final stop for bus 150,so that I need not worry about getting off at the right stop.Is there an announcement at each stop?

Sorry just got back from St Wolfgang so didn't see your post! It cost me EUR8,10 from Salzburg Hauptbahnhof to St Wolfgang Markt so I'm guessing a day ticket "Tageskarte" will cost you 16,20 EUR.

You can buy the ticket for the whole journey when you board bus 150. I just asked the driver for a ticket to St Wolfgang. I got off the bus at Strobl and when I boarded Bus 2560 to go onto St Wolfgang I showed the driver the ticket I'd been issued on Bus 150.

On Bus 150 there is a little vid screen at the front which tells you the next stop and a list of the stops coming up. There's a verbal announcement of each stop as you approach it. You can also pick up a timetable from a rack next to the steps as you board the bus so you can see the journey times.

Hope that helps!

Sorry - forgot to say that Strobl is not the final stop for Bus 150 - it goes onto Bad Ischl after Strobl. However, with the vid screen at the front of the bus and the recorded announcement you will know when you are coming up to "Strobl Busbahnhof" which is where you alight to transfer to the connecting bus to St Wolfgang. If in doubt, ask the driver, but I think you'll be fine.

Travel Tips for Salzburg

Old Town of Salzburg

by HORSCHECK

Take a stroll around the Old Town of Salzburg which is located on the left bank of the river Salzach.
There are many picturesque buildings in the narrow passageways. The many arcades, courtyards, steep and narrow steps create a unique atmosphere. The Old Town can be explored by horse-drawn carriages.

Festung Hohensalzburg

by Cool-123

It is located in the old town. It takes about 15 mins walk to the top or you can use the Festungsbahn funicular. The outlook to the north over the city is simply stupendous. The view to the south is of Alpine peaks, including the Untersberg (1853m).

See all the pretty churches...

by Venturingnow

<font color= teal See all the pretty churches throughout the city of Salzburg. The Dom is nice, and so is St. Peters. The interior of the Dom is nice because it's all plaster, or stone, and it's very detailed. If you're into that sort of stuff, you'll have a blast in Salzburg. My fondest memory of Salzburg was waking up and touring the city in 35 degree weather while it rained/sleeted/snowed throughout the day. I ended up just having to go inside the Dom to warm up for about a half hour because I could no longer press the button on my camera!

Germknoedel (Yeast Dumpling)

by HORSCHECK

Don't miss to try a Germknoedel in one of Salzburg's cafes or restaurants. It is a dumpling of sweet dough filled with plum, which is served with brown butter and vanilla sugar.
Usually a Germknoedel is a dessert, but for most people it is already enough to be full up.
