Mozart on a more human scale
by brazwhazz
My fondest memory of the Mozart craze in Salzburg is one night in front of the Mozarts Geburtshaus (house where Mozart was born), on Getreidegasse.
As we were walking, we heard a man playing famous Mozart pieces on his piano. We decided to stop and have a drink at the outside terrace of a nearby cafe (Testa Rossa, although it seems to have since moved inside the Geburtshaus). Although I suspect there was an agreement between the piano player and the cafe (the setting was just too perfect), the scene felt more authentic than any other Mozart attraction, perhaps because we were simply enjoying the man's music instead of dogging his footsteps.
Salzburg, a very musical place!
by Roeffie
Salzburg is of course the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Next to that it played a big roll in the filmmusical Sound of music.
Lot's of places remind of this nice musical.
But the main thing to visit Salzburg is the town itselve and it's inhabitants.
Mozart footbridge
by Marpessa
Along the Salzach River you will find the Mozart footbridge (and as this suggests it is for pedestrians) connecting the two banks of the city. The bridge has speakers all along the path playing operatic arias that Mozart composed. It is a nice bridge to cross over, in fact any of the bridges over the Salzach River will give you a great view of the city, especially of the Altstadt (old town) and Hohensalzburg fortress.
Google "Salzburg" and use Tourism Center

Make sure you make good use of Google when researching Salzburg and be sure to visit www.austria-tourism.at for more information. They'll send you brochures and info about Salzburg/Austria if you request it. I just received some myself. Good stuff.
Original Salzburg Mozartkugel
by TinKan
While in Salzburg you must stop in the shop to get some of the Original Salzburg Mozartkugel. The Mozartkugel is a small ball of pistachio marzipan covered in bittersweet chocolate and then wrapped in silver and blue foil. Many people give them as gifts from Salzburg but for some reason each time I buy a bunch of them they never make it to their intended recipients. (Could have some thing to do with me eating them…haha)
The best place in town to get them is at:
Café Konditorei Fürst
Alter Markt, Brodgasse 13
