markets

by turgut

we will be visiting Salzburg from 28 december to 2nd January are there any local markets open in Salzburg or around

Re: markets

by globetrott

What is a "local market" for you ??
1)Is it a christmasmarket ? - I am sure it is too late then
2)or is it a market for fruits, vegetables ? - yes that is possible between 28th and 30th, such markets are to be found mostly once a week on a big square, they start early in the morning and some of them close already at lunchtime
3)market-stands for new-years-eve selling fireworks & other rubbish - yes I am afraid they will be all over at that time !
---
most shops will close around lunchtime on Dec. 31st
Jan 1st is mostly closed !

hi - unfortunately x-mas markets are closed by then. However there will still be a few stalls our preparing for New Year's celebration. http://www.austria.info/us/people-and-traditions/chrsitmas-markets-in-austria-1126434.html

Travel Tips for Salzburg

Salzburg Card

by paulcantlon

You can purchase a Salzburg card which is valid for either 24, 48 or 72hours with the cost being about 19, 25, 34EUR respectively. The card gains you free entry to most of the sights around Salzburg including Mozart's house/birthplace, the Fortress and cable railway, the Zoo, Rezidenz, Stiegl's World of Beer and many others, plus free public transport for the time period specified.
The card is very well worth it considering the trip up the cable rail is 8EUR in itself.

Wander the streets of the Old...

by KathyW

Wander the streets of the Old Town. There are all kinds of little side streets, tucked away and hidden. You come upon a plaza, an open air market, a cafe, an old church. I especially loved the open air flower market. The city is divided by the Salzach River, with the Old Town on one side and the Right Bank on the other. Two mountains rise on each side and the city actually is built into the sides of these two mountains on opposite sides of the river. Towering above the Old Town is the Hohensalzburg, a fortress that dates back to the early 1500's. Salzburg is truly an architectural and cultural delight!

Nice Restaurant...

...A photo of that restaurant...full of people at that time when I was there....Bruno was standing at the front there....
The name of the restaurant is Stadtalm; Somebody mentioned to me that this place can be reached only by taxi or by walking...

Statues Wrapped For Winter

by AnnS

There are many beautiful statues and fountains in Salzburg and before I could photograph them all, workmen started wrapping them up for winter, presumably to protect them from the snow and ice. Some of the larger ones were being completely encased in wooden panels, some in perspex pyramids and others were just covered with plastic 'hoods'.

So be warned! If you want to see them, go before November 6th.

Close the menu

by WrigleyTodd

CLOSE THE MENU: When you're at a restaurant in Salzburg and in most of Europe, chances are you won't have your order taken until you close your menu. In America, we tend to keep the menu open so we can ask questions or make picky requests. If you keep your menu open, the waiter or waitress may think you're still deciding and not get your order.
