Renaissance Congress Hotel - Nicely Done!
As I was traveling with my two 20-something year old children, and on hotel loyalty points with the Marriott chain, we needed lodging that could accommodate the 3 of us and within the Marriott reward program. The hotel was within a short walking distance from the train station, 3 blocks and no hills.
The hotel's lobby is spacious, and the staff was warm and friendly - truly friendly. The decor is lovely, and appeared to have been remodeled recently. A nice security feature - the elevators only work with your room key - as is the case you will find in very large cities, but I was not expecting this in Salzburg, so it was a nice surprise. The staff more than went out of their way for us, finding a box suitable for shipping souveniers as well as arranging shipment on the day of our departure.
The room was very spacious. Two queen sized beds, a large dresser, table and chairs and still room for all of our luggage - without any of it crowding us.
The food at the hotel was very good. Our room included breakfast for the two mornings we were there. A delicious spread of European (sausages, cheeses, pastries, yogurt) and American (eggs, & bacon) fare, plus a nice variety of juices and jams to go with it all. Of course, the coffee was to perfection.
The location of the hotel is away from the old town and a good walk from Mirabelle Palace and gardens, but the taxi to Mirabelle was less than $10 Euro - around $5 Euro plus tip. Taxi to the old town was around $10 plus tip.
There's a great little cafe across the street from this hotel - serving a wide variety of dishes, from the classic "American" cheeseburger, to Mexican fajitas.
Unique Quality: Spacious rooms, friendly staff.
