the best view of Salzburg !

"Schoene Aussicht" means in english "beautiful view" - and it`s exactly, what the Hotel "Schöne Aussicht" offers; many visitors are perplexed, when they realise, how beautiful the Salzburg-valley and its surrounding mountains are!
Positioned somewhat outside Salzburgs city-limits on the "Heuberg"-hill by the road to St Gilgen, the "Schöne Aussicht" not only offers smashing sights, but also comfortable, rustical rooms, amenities like outside pool, tenniscourt and, above all, the fresh smell of the hillside lawns, mixed with the sounds of the cattle. To make travellers satisfaction complete, a gourmet-restaurant, serving the fine and exquisite dishes of Austrias alpine districts, adds to the hotels advantages.

Unique Quality: Unparalleled location with wonderful views of Salzburg and its valley and mountains; traditional and comfortable, yet rather simple rooms.Beware: difficult to reach by car due to the steep and narrow uphill-road, very difficult to drive during winter-season !!

More about Schone Aussicht

A recent visit to a much loved place.

"Lienz and nearby Iselsberg/Winklern"

One week of our recent two months travels was spent in this area. We visited it last in 1970 and expected many changes. But the area is as lovely as ever and, probably because it is a little off the beaten track, not so busy as other areas in Austria. It hasn't even changed all that much. The small town Lienz has expanded somewhat, but staying in a "Privatzimmer" which was really a self-contained flat in a suburb only 10 min. from the station was a very pleasant experience, as there were very many opportunities for nice walks in the environment. The views of the Dolomites and other nearby mountains are fantastic. Even better were a few days on the pass road( Penzelberg) near Iselsberg direction Winklern, in the vicinity of the hotel Defreggerhof. This area is lovely for walking and biking and fantastic views can be had, as it is higher than the town of Lienz( approx 20 min by bus) There is a restaurant at the end of a road, and a road a little beyond, that has a high view all over the Lienz area. That point is called "Schone Aussicht" ( beautiful view) and it is fabulous. One can walk there also via a very attractive track from approx the Defreggerhof. We stayed in a lovely "Privatzimmer" again( also like a self-contained flat) and shopping could be done in Winklern, down into W. on foot, and return by bus. If you look for a lovely peaceful environment, this is the place to be. And very much recommended is the train trip through South Tirol (Northern Italy) between Innsbruck and Lienz. This is a very scenic route. We continued our travels from Lienz by taking the train to Vienna via Villach, Klagenfurt , Leoben and Wiener Neustadt, also a nice route, although less spectacular than the Innsbruck/Lienz route.
