We stayed in the Star Inn for one night. It took us a while to find the hotel, but the location was good for sightseeing. It was very close to the start of the walk up the Kapuzineberg. It was very close to the Mirabell Gardens and close to the river to cross into the old town. There was a newly opened Billa Box at the end of our street. We each bought a filled roll and a drink for 1Euro 50 cents for breakfast rather than eating in the hotel.
Check in was quick, friendly, efficient. We were issued with a city map. The hotel lift was not working when we arrived and we had to carry our luggage upstairs ourselves.
The room was spacious and very clean. There was a good choice of TV channels. The free wifi advertised did not work in our room - room 209 - my husband complained, but the manager was totally unhelpful and just kept saying it did work. My husband ended up both sitting in the lobby and standing in the corridor to access the internet. Not ideal.
The hotel was quiet and we slept well. There were plenty of restaurants nearby. The room had no tea/coffee or in room safe.
Stayed July 2012, travelled as a couple
Nothing special about this hotel - its your garden variety Holiday Inn. I generally don't stay in Holiday Inns, because, quite frankly, I don't like them. Too basic for me. Took me and the wife a good 15 minutes to walk to the old town. However, hotels in Salzburg tend to be very expensive - as is pretty much everything in Salzburg. Basic as it is, it still represents a good value - especially at this time of year.
Unique Quality: None really.
