Lakeside

Historically, Sankt Gilgen has been a wealthy man's playground for a long time. Even today, many of Salzburg's wealthier residents have homes here. Its location on the northwestern edge of the Wolgansee ensures that there are always great water activies to participate in, weather permitting of course.
Hang-glinding
by yooperprof
A major feature of summer recreation in St. Gilgen is hang-gliding. People take small gondola cars to the summit of one of the hilltops surrounding the town, jump off sheer rock cliffs, and then gradually drift down to the plains below. Did Yooperprof try out hang-gliding when he was here. Yeah, sure, you bet!
Schafberg
by acemj
From the lakeside in Sankt Gilgen, you can see a tall mountain peak looming over the opposite shore. The mountain is called Schafberg and it's most easily accessed from St. Wolfgang where there is a train that takes you to the top. The views from the top are tremendous as you can see over all of the area's lakes as well as out to the Dachstein mountains.
Sankt Gilgen

"Picturesque Sankt Gilgen"
Sankt Gilgen is a picturesque village on the Wolfgangsee. It is often promted as Mozart Village even though the composer had never lived there. However, his mother was born here and his sister Nannerl lived there after she got married. Mozart's grandfather also worked there.
"Beautiful Mozartplatz"
Sankt Gilgen's Mozartplatz is small but very very pretty. Right in front of the Town Hall stands the statue of Mozart. Opposite is the Post Hotel with its fantastic restaurant.
"Beautiful buildings in the Mozartplatz"
It was definitely worth wandering around St Gilgen just to admire the flowers, balconies and oreils on the buildings. I was taken in by the beautiful bay windows of the buildings around the Mozartplatz, such as the Museum of Musical Instruments.
