Kaerntner Hof: A good choice

At first I wanted to pass by Werfen, but there was a trafic-jam and so I decided to leave the highway and spend the night there and explore the castle the other day.
Hotel Kaerntner Hof had a free room for me, a single room, facing the mountains and the castle and it even had a small balcony with a great view - see my pictures !
When I asked about where I could park my car, I was given a place in the hotel-garage free of charge !
Breakfast was great and I payed just 27 euros for my singleroom with private facilities and balcony at the middle of September.
In general rooms are quite cheap in Werfen, compared with Salzburg !

I had a room facing the alps, with a view of the castle and first I had the feeling that the train-noises might be too much at night, BUT finally I did not hear anything at all !

The Erzherzog Eugen: Very traditional

The guesthouse is one of the most traditional buildings in the village Werfen. The erzherzog Eugen provides twelve quiet rooms which are comfortable and offer splendid view of the mountains.

Gasthaus Weisses Rössl Fruhstuckspension: Nice guesthouse at the town center

This guesthouse is owned by a very nice man who also lives there. It is located at the center of the town, only a few hundred meters from the train station, and very close to hiking paths into the surrounding mountains and castle. The rooms are ensuite and cost about 45 euros per room and include cable TV and a full breakfast. Most of the guests here are Austrian, but the owner speaks English well and is very helpful.

The Weisses Lamb & Others: You Have a Variety of Choices

These are the four that were used by the wedding guests. They varied in price and decor but were all within a minute walk of each other.
1. The Karntnerhof - A traditional Austrian pension used by the bicycle touring groups. Our younger son stayed there and had a great room, private bath with a balcony view of the castle and ice cave to die for. Very reasonable. Christain, their host, was there 24 hours a day to take care of any request. He and the staff gave Matt and his guest , Robin, a generous dose of Austrian hospitality. Market 31(tel:06468-5214)
2. The Weisse Lamm - Our home away from home for our week in Werfen, the Weisses Lamm was just what we needed. From our balcony we could view the entire town, the castle and keep track of who was at which outdoor eatery. Anne, our hostess, also owns the butcher shop that is attached to the inn. Needless to say our breakfast had the best meats in town. Anne was an efficient and friendly hostess. She made our stay 1st class. (medium rate)Market 36 (tel:064685224)
3. The Erzherzog-Eugen- A lovely inn and hotel with beautiful newly renovated rooms. The breakfast area was quite lovely and upscale. But, the views of the castle are limited. (Moderate -plus) Market 38 (tel:064685210)
4. The Obauer- Well known for the brothers Obauer Resturaunt, ---this hotel does not give you the flavor of the area or a sense of tradition. The rooms and decor are right out of a streamline ultra modern archectural magazine. (Although the staff is quite efficient , the warmth we felt at the other inns was missing-just my opinion.) (Most Expensive) Market 46 (tel:06468-5212)
