what is the cost of train from zell am see to salzburg

There is a wonderful offer called "Einfach Raus", valid on regional trains (it's probably what you need anyway). It's a day-pass valid in entire Austria and the set price is 28 Euro.
So four people would pay 7 Euro / person - a real bargain for Austria. And there is nothing to book because there are no seats to be reserved. These trains operate like city trams or subways.

The simplest is to buy the ticket at the station. Buying through ÖBB (Austrian Rail) web site is recommended only if you would enter Austria on the train from abroad and would continue on the same train - not having enough time to buy the ticket at the station.
And since there is nothing to reserve because the seats aren't numbered - don't worry about not getting on the regional trains. In worst case (rarely if ever happens) who can't get a seat will stay. Since the distance is so short - nothing to worry.
When you are up to 5 persons and travel after 09.00am from Mon-Fri, you can get a "Einfach Raus Ticket" for a total price of 28 euros for the whole day on the train untill 03.00am the next day.
That ticket is for slow trains only, But thats perfect for the distance to Salzburg !
Sat+Sun this ticket is valid any time untill 03.00am monday morning !
I agree with GyuriFT. Einfach Raus is the best way to travel across Austria in regional trains.
If you're going hiking - be aware of the changing weather! The weather can be quite sunny and nice one moment, while thunder strikes the next. Be sure to bring several layers of clothes. And of course, good shoes when hiking is a must!
Pay a visit to the neighbouring town of Kaprun. It is a pretty little town which I am sure comes alive in the winter ski season.
It was a very hot day when we were there and most things were closed.
If you are looking for tourist information of Zell Am See and surrounding areas, then it will be easy because you can obtain the information from the website or your hotel, and there is a tourist information centre located on the main road of Zell Am See called Brucker Bunderstrasse. The tourist information centre is just next to the local police station.
