any advice for 1 st time skiers

by rodwall99

we are new to skiing, a family of 2 adults and 3 kids 3, 7 and 9 years.
The lift passes look rather expensive, is there any suggestions how to be cost effective.
I expect that kids will be in ski school, will they need lift passes? Or is that usually included in ski school cost.
I doubt if my wife and I will be skiing everyday so is it better to buy a day pass as and when we need one?
Do you need a ski pass to use the nursery slopes? do you need the pass for free buses to lift?
where are the best ski hire deals? saw one stating 2 adult ski hires and kids under 10 are free hire, is this the norm?
Any other advice would be appreciated

do a goggle search for austria ski resort reviews . several sites will come up. one of the ones i like has 2j or j2 in the name.
i would not think you would need a pass just to ride the buses to the lifts.
i skied for over 30 years and never had to show a ticket or pass to use the free bus.
as for where to stay. if you do not have an auto stay close to where you catch the bus.or one of the lifts
a couple of times i stayed at places not near the lifts or where the bus stopped that had great brekfast from 800 am to 930 am. if i sleep pass 800am i had to skip breakfast to be able to get ready and walk a mile or so to catch the last bus that left at 9 am.
if you plan to take lessons. a plan of 10 people or less to a group for 2 half days then a group of 5 people or less for 3 half days. and then a group of 2 or 3 for 2 or 3 half days seems to work well for most first timers. note take only one half day of lessons per day.after this most can handle the blue and more difficult runs.
the first thing a good teacher schould show you is how to do a controlled sitdown or fall. and tell you if you feel that you are about to lose controll
do a controlled sitdown or fall. the one i was taught was like sliding into second base in baseball.

getting on the chairs and off chairs with the skis on can be a problem for first timers.
on way around this is ,if there is an atendant at both the load on and load off point is, to ski to the load on areat. take the skis off and carry your skis and poles the few feet to the load on point . the atendant schould take the skis but not the poles and place them in a rack in an chair that preceeds the chair you use or in a rack in the chair that follows your chair.

Firstly i'd advise to never just get day passes as and when, get ones that last for the entire duration of your trip, and the nursery slope lifts require lift passes as well, theyre the most important thing that you'll posess on your holiday. As for the cost or wether they're included in the ski school price or not completely depends on what the deal is with your travel agent, although the two can usually be combined in some sort of package. If you and your wife are first time skiers, you too will also need ski school, as it sure as heck isn't just for children like some people imagine it to be. For first timers you won't be able to just jump on and off when you feel like, and once you're on you won't want to come off. The resort is merely some bars and sports shops in a small town without the peaks, and the true beauty (and social spots) lies right there on the slopes. As long as you have skis or a snowboard with you the bus drivers don't ask for any lift passes or anything like that, just get on and off.

Zell am See Airport

by RACCOON1

The Zell an See airport is just south of the town . On a sunny October day , a trip to the airprt could be considered to watch
airplanes/gliders land and take off .

The alpine scenery makes a beautiful backdrop for glider watching .

Zeller See & the promenade

by globetrott

The Zeller See and its great promenade are a wonderfull place to relax, to rent a boat, or to take a rest on one of the many benches and enjoy the view of the lake and the surrounding mountains, that includes the area of the highest mountain of Austria, the Großglockner with a hight of 3798 meters above sealevel. That promenade is a carfree area of about 800 meters and will also be lighted untill late at night.
