Walking in Schmitten
by i-bella
The mountain paths that are nearest to Zell am See are really very near. The cableway station is at the outskirts of the village and it takes you to Schmittenhoehe, the starting point of five paths. The view of the lake is wonderful and also the view of the high mountain tops to the south. A very detailed and useful description of the paths and of the other activities and attractions can be found in the website I indicate below.
Cable car ride to the top and hike down.

My pension was near the cable car terminus, so it was a short hike to start with.
Remember check where your hotel is located and also plan to travel on the town bus, it is a steep hill, especially with a back pack. the top of the mountain, allows for great views allthe way around. well not today, so I checked the path for the descent and started to walk.
The Schmittenhohe is 1965 m high, just over 6400 ft.
There is also a 6 to 7 hour walk from here, called the Pinzgau Walk all at an altitude over 2000m ending above Saalbach to the North west.
Zell am See---the pearl in the mountain

"Not only the gate"
Zell am See is not only the gateway to the nearby Kaprun and Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, itself is also proud to possess a beautiful lake and green mountains. In 2004, I made it a stop when I went by rail from Innsbruck to Salzburg. The scenery along the railway is also gorgeous.
