On the glacier
Please can anyone give me an idea on the weather/temperature to expect for January. We are staying at The Alpine Centre near Zell am See. We don'r ski but would l ike to try the other winter sports but i have no idea on the type of clothes that would be suitable.
You are talking about Zell am See, located in Austrias coldest region. So there is only one answer to your question: Bring along the warmest winter clothes that you can get.
Warm winter boots, best filled with (artifical!) fur, long underwear, thick pullovers, hooded anoracks, wide scarves, warm gloves should be your minimum outfit.
One evening there were some festivities in the town. Normally I would'nt listen to Tiroler Like music, but in this particular setting it is very what Austrians say "gemütlich".
It is perfect within the setting of the mountains and gives a lot of joy!
Closeby Zell am See you will find Kaprun with this interesting, old castle. Unfortunately I came out of the opening-times, but at least I could walk around the castle on a small path, there are a lot of carparking-spaces as well and there was also a place in the wall where I could take a sneak into the innercourt, (my 4th photo)
the path was well marked, as they all are in Austria, so I was soon down to the town. The poor visibility shows up in the haze in the photo.
Still it is a pleasnat place to visit, mid way between Bludenz and my ultimate destination on this trip, Villach and Bled.
This is where I was married in 1996, a very beautiful place where every second person will show you scenes that were in the Sound of Music(pinch of salt). We were back again to ski in 2002 and the skiing was amazing.
