Close up of the climb.

It seemed that most of the traffic on the pass was buss or trucks, maybe the car drivers were waiting for better conditions.
The pass rises to 2500 m. or 8000 ft. It is open during the summer months, closing when the snow really blocks the road, usually in October. The present road was constructed in the early 1930's.
the church of Zell am See
by globetrott
The St Hippolyt Parish Church of Zell am See dates back to the 11th century and you will see its giant tower from almost any place in town. The church was built in romanic style with some elements in gothic style added lateron. The interior is mainly in gothic style and it is really worth seeing, see some photos of it in my next tip !
Music, dance and festivals
by victorwkf
Zell Am See is a rather lively town, and there frequent music, dance and festivals. The best way to find out is to check out their website, or obtain the Zell Am See brochure (and check with your hotel staff) when you are there. During our honeymoon in June 2007, my wife and I managed to catch a local song and dance performance held at the Zell Am See park next to the lake (we enjoyed the performance).
Zell for the day

"Overnight Stop"
Our overnight stop at the YH in Zell am Zee was part of the trip we did to a motorcycle rally in Czech... and this was the return section.
The ride down from Bad Reichenhall was very scenic with snow capped mountains appearing and disappearing at every turn in the road.
The Youth Hostel is in the southern part of Zell. The lake comes close to the cliffside and there's only room for a road, a railway and a path to walk on cutting the town into two halves.
The more touristy bit to the north.
The YH is right on the lakeside with its own terrace giving views of the lake and the surrounding mountains, plus "north" Zell about a kilometre away.
Our double room had a scenic view to die for from the window - see pic ------>
