This was the best-value place we could find in Graz though we did leave it to the last minute to book. It cost 58 pounds sterling for a double room, including an excellent breakfast. Hotel Daniel is a typical hotel for business travellers, not the place I'd usually chose to stay in, rather impersonal and a bit characterless. It is located in Platz Europa, beside the train station, about 10 minutes walk from the town centre. The location was fine for us as we were taking an early train to Maribor in Slovenia the following morning. However, if I was returning to Graz I'd do a bit more research and try to find somewhere a bit cheaper and closer to the centre of town.
Directions: Adjacent to the train station
As soon as I saw the hotel for the first time, I knew that I wanted to stay at Hotel Daniel.
From the time you enter the hotel, you just realise what a cool place it is.
You check in at the Reception, with also doubles as a coffee bar. So the receptionist can not only check you in, but she will also give you a Latte if you ask for one.
The rooms area also very minimalist, and very trendy, the shower was really big and the bathroom had pink walls, very very cool.
The room came with breakfast included and the range was very extensive.
The staff were very friendly and the hotel is also located steps from the main station and is located right on Europaplatz.
Getting to the old town will take about 7 minutes by tram, or a delightful 20 minute stroll.
Unique Quality: The unique qualities about this hotel was the friendly staff, but more the decor, its very very trendy, from the tables and chairs to the lampshades, its all very funky, and very very retro 70's feel.
Directions: Located right on Europaplatz, minutes from the main station, and about 20 minute stroll from the old town.
I would highly recommend this hotel...it's very nice, the rooms are relatively big and have all the amenities one would need (phone, TV, stereo)...they're also very stylish in a modern and minimalist sort of way....and very clean..The shower and toilet are kind-of built in rather than in a separate room...also, there's a see-through glass overlooking the shower so if you are traveling with someone who you're not comfortable with seeing you naked this could lead to an uncomfortable situation....I traveled alone, however, and loved the room and the shower!!:) The breakfast is included and it's also awesome...lots of variety: mozzarella caprese salad, prosciutto, eggs, bacon, rolls, different cheeses, different cold cuts, nutella, jams, yogurt & muesli & cereal...etc:) very yummy stuff!! and fresh....also the receptionist is also a barista so whenever you need a cappucino or latte you can buy one at the front desk...other cool perks: free internet access!! Another bonus is it's location: it's right next to the train station and all other public transportation (trams, buses)...it's also within walking distance of many of the attractions of Graz.
This was an excellent hotel in a top location near the Haupbanhof station. We walked to the main old part of Graz in 10-15 minutes at a casual pace. The bed was very comfortable and the shower room very interesting (visable from the bedroom). The price was an absolute bargain for what we got.
this is a cool hotel in graz, we stayed for just the 1 nite in october this year and was well happy with this clean cool almost groovy hotel,
its right next to the main station in graz ( walk out the station and its over on the right hand side)
nice price 4 a twin room 59euros, the room is quite spacious and we requested a front room with a balcony ( we booked online) and we got exactly what we asked for , yeeha,
staff were freindly and multilinual and helpful and polite at all times.
we didnt have time for breakfast as we were out on a irish pub crawl the night b4 and on the 08.36 to zagreb in the morning
one word of warning though the room have a great shower with a see through full length glass window which is almost in the miiddle of the room which some poeple in twin rooms might not be comfortable with . all part of the modern design of the rooms i suppose.
overall i would reccommend a stay at the daniel in graz
Unique Quality: trendy looking cool hotel next to the main station .
crisp interior and nice rooms.
free internet on a state of the art laptop in the lobby.
nice little balcony in the rooms at the front.
Directions: Right next to the main station in graz
We were two graduate students travelling to visit collaborators at the university. The hotel was very impressive. Rooms were clean and modern, breakfast buffet had lots of delicious choices, and there was even a tray of complimentary gummi bears at the reception desk. The free amenities there are very nice, though anything which is not free is going to be rather overpriced (we were charged 6 euro for a bottle of water!). If you just live within the generous free amenities though, you can live very comfortably there. Staff is friendly, but they frequently were busy hosting parties which made the lobby slightly unwelcoming at times. And unfortunately if you want internet, you're going to be spending a lot of time in the lobby since that's where the wireless is. The wall-mounted internet jacks in our room and in the lobby did not work with either of our computers (mac and windows), and it seemed other people were having this problem too.
In any case, stayed 6 nights and other than those acceptable nuisances, we had a very enjoyable time. The hotel is highly recommended.
Unique Quality: As others have said, the showers in the rooms are rather peculiar since they have a full-length window along the side. Anyone in the bedroom will fully see the showerer in full. This didn't bother us, but could be a problem for pairs that are less comfortable with each other. The shower is quite spacious to boot!
Directions: Leaving the train station, turn right and it is in front of you on the other side of the tram circle.
