airport

by bajci

How far is from the center of Graz to the airport?
what is the best and the cheapest way to get there?
is there a bus to the airport or is the taxi better solution???

There is a bus station outside the airport which takes you to Graz center. Buses are usually timed to match flight arrivals.

There is also a train station within walking distance but trains are only every 2 hours. You can get train times and online tickets on: www.oebb.at
The station at the airport is called Graz Feldkirchen

There is also a taxi rank outside the airport for the quickest and most convenient, but also most expensive, option.

We did this journey very recently - just two weeks ago.

The train station is about five-ten minutes walk away - trains are every thirty minutes to Graz. We checked this carefully as we have a flat in Maribor Slovenia and we will be using this airport regularly. If you have luggage it is permitted to take a trolley from the airport to the station.

It is correct that the buses are timed for arrivals and it costs just 1 Euro 70 into the centre and the journey takes 25 minutes. There are stops all around town and the bus terminates at the main train station. Tell the driver where you need to be and he will be able to tell you the best place to get off.

Travel Tips for Graz

So-called Bezirke

by polardabar

Graz is made of 17 city neighborhoods, as you could call them. It's a cool thing, 'coz everyone knows which part is which. It reminded me a bit of Paris & its arrondissements. So, here they go:

I Innere Stadt
II St. Leonhard
III Geidorf
IV Lend
V Gries
VI Jakomini
VII Liebenau
VIII St. Peter
IX Waltendorf
X Ries
XI Mariatrost
XII Andritz
XIII Gösting
XIV Eggenberg
XV Wetzelsdorf
XVI Straßgang
XVII Puntigam

The Town Hall

by croisbeauty

See the beautiful Rathaus, the Town Hall of Graz, which is situated in the Rathausplatz, The Town Hall Square. Rathaus is very huge building which occupies waste area of the very heart of the city. By the time I have visited Graz the whole area around the Rathausplatz was under major reconstruction works.

Mülltrennung, people!

by polardabar

There is a thing which is not to be forgotten nor ignored while in Austria - Mülltrennung - dividing every kind of garbage into a separate can! It takes a lot of space [and a lot of cans] & is basically kind of useless, since they put it at the same pile in the end, but when in Rome... ;)

interesting and sustainable architecture

by picek

... 'organic' architecture is sprouting in city and it's please for an eye and heart to see it: on our walk to the city we found that little kindergarten (kindergarden) on Ghegagasse, just opposite to student homes to be good example of simple, yet nature friendly project. Grassy roof, wood - and landscaping around the playground makes it merge finely with its immediate environment.

It's not tourist attraction, but it's interesting building to see.

Address: Ghegagasse 14 - Lend district; it's parallel to Keplerstrasse. 20 minutes walk to city centre.

An area full of cafes and restaurants.

This was a photo I took on the Monday of the general area near the Glockenspiel. Little did I know I would be here again on the Tuesday having lunch, after the visit to Eggenberg castle.

The visit over we caught the tram to the City Centre and joined Hellfried for a light lunch, sitting outdoors to the right of the photo.
