Schladming is a former silver mining town but now well known in the sporting calendar for ski-ing, mountain biking and downhill golf. It has a pedestrianised centre with good selection of shops and cafes. They even have their own local brewery - Scladminger beer and a Schnaps distillery.
The Plania cable-car is just a few minutes walk from the centre - up here its a haven for mountain bikers. Planai mountain plays host to the UCI Mountain Biking World Cup every summer. Planai also run a series of hiking buses so linked walked or circular walks can be enjoyed quite easily. On the outskirts of town is a large sports centre with open and indoor pools...so there's plenty of things to do here in this family friendly market town.
