The main approach to the historic centre of Innsbruck (the Aldstadt) is Maria-Theresien-Strasse. In the middles of this street stands the Annasaule, erected to commemorate the Tyroleans defeat of the Bavarians in 1703 (on St. Anne's day - hence the name of the column). This view down Maria-Theresien-Strasse, past the Annasaule, over the Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof)and on to the Nordkette mountain range is probably the most famous view of Innsbruck
