One Sunday in Innsbruck

by kteacher

My husband and I and our two grown sons are stopping for one night in Innsbruck as we drive from Prague to Florence. We are finding that many restaurants are closed on Sunday nights! Any suggestions for a "non-touristy" restaurant? Upscale is okay. Also, since we will be arriving early afternoon and leaving the next morning, any suggestions on how to spend our time? We are thinking about taking a cable car up into the mountains since our main goal is, of course, to see the Alps. Thanks!

I guess it would depend on what your interests are..you really dont have much time.Id suggest you search here ...there's an on-site "search engine"..take a look at people's Innsbruck pages and determine what you'd like to do.

I didnt have much time either in Innsbruck but I certainly enjoyed walking the "Old Town".

Hi. We really enjoyed Innsbruck. We had a couple great meals at the Goldener Adler right in Old Town. It's a Best Western but don't let that put you off. In Europe the Best Western Hotels-Restaurants are locally owned and usually in lovely historic buildings. This one is no exception. They will be open on Sunday and have several dining options. It's fun to eat outside when the weather cooperates. http://www.bestwestern.at/hotels/index_hotel.php?id=39

There is a folk museum downtown that we really enjoyed. They have many items regarding local history including entire rooms from different eras and locations. The cable car idea is terrific. Believe me, you will see the Alps in Innsbruck. It is gorgeous.

Hi,

Have you considered visiting Wattens, the HQ of Swarowski? Even if you're not into their articles, their site is quite a spectacle in a great setting.

~Only a short drive from Innsbruck.

Yes, Swarovski in Wattens is nice indeed.
Mighr be a very good bad-weather-alternative.

It was like being at home with the doctors and books, the specimens and cadavers..ok,thats gross for most of the people...but hey..thats how we learn medicine and treat you guys!

On our way to Munich we had the opportunity to visit Kind Ludwig's Neuschwanstein Castle. Just about every picture you see in newly bought photo albums has this castle as a filler. Crazy Kind Ludwig definitely knew how to waste his people's money. But just how did he die? Our guide gave us an opportunity to visit a Austrian crystal factory. I believe this one is called Swzarski. I'm sure I am not correct on the spelling but we ended up spending a lot of money for gifts.

Stadtturm

The city tower is situated in the old town, in the square where is Goldenes Dachl too. The tower was built in 1440. The roof was renovated in XVI century. It is possible to go upstairs and to see around. To be true I didn't do that.

One of the very many lovely town houses along Herzog-Friedrich-Strasse. The final building on the left, just as you get to the Goldnes Dachl is probably the most impressive though - see further below on this page.

When using a WC in Austria and you see the toilet seat spinning, it may not be because you've had too much of the local spirits. The seat really is spinning for the automatic cleaning system after you flush!
