Just had a 4 night stay at the Olberg. Some may find it a little too far out of town but a regular bus sevice (J Bus) stops outside the door. €3.40 for 2 people one way. Perhaps a little too far to walk. Ok going into town but a hard slog coming back!!
Traditional Pension, typically Tyrolean situated overlooking Innsbruck with mountains all around.
Our bedroom was very basic, and could do with modernisation, however it was very clean and was serviced every day. The Olberg is family run, and sometimes the language can be a slight problem. It seems that the main bulk of the guests are German speaking and the hotel is also open to the public for meals and drinks. Having said that, it is a very friendly place and we were made to feel welcome. If you are wanting a reasonably priced no frills stay then yes I would reccommend the Olberg. Hopefully one day we will return to beautiful Innsbruck and I would be happy to stay again at the Olberg (so long as I had the room with the view!)
Unique Quality: If you want a fantastic view of the mountains and Innsbruck yet peace and quiet, then Gasthof Olberg is the place for you!!. On booking I asked if possible for a room with a balcony and WOW it was worth it. From our room you could watch the planes leaving and arriving with the mountains (snow capped) as the backdrop. Don't worry about the noise though as the airport seems to close at night and there are not that many flights per day. Directly opposite the Olberg in the distance you can see the Bergisel Ski Jump. That view was to die for. On speaking to people, we were told that through the winter (ski season) it is difficult to get in at the Olberg, when we were there, it was very quiet and maybe only a max of 10 people staying per night. The Olberg also has a seperate annex for self catering stays.
Breakfast was the tradional bread, cold meats, cheese, fruit and yoghurt served buffet style and eat as much as you want. We chose to have our evening meals at the Olberg, and the food was very good, you would not be hungry when you had finished and it was also reasonably priced. Meals and drinks are available every day except on Wednesdays when the staff have a break from cooking. (they are still available to check in/out guests etc). I always say you can judge a place by how many locals frequent it well on our arrival day (a Sunday) the sun terrace was packed with people just having a bite to eat and a drink. Also through our stay, many locals popped in for a meal and a drink in the bar.
