Alpen Zoo - Well worth a visit.
by Julian_K
The Alpen Zoo is the highest zoo in Europe and hosts a small but spectacular collection of animals found in Tirol & Austria. Being from Australia it was great to see many animals which I had not seen before (its too hot for them here) including beavers (they are huge), mountain goats, mooses, and a very interesting array of birds. To zoo itself is literally on the mountain so you don't really walk 'around' the zoo you more walk 'up' the zoo. Also the view from the zoo over Innsbruck is beautiful, adding to the attraction of the place. Although I don't think you could spend a whole day here, I think 3 hours is enough to see everything sufficiently.

Hofburg was began to build in 1460 by Sigismund Duke and finished in Maximillian I times, in the beginning of XVI century. Then the building was renovated in 1754-1773. It is the place of the marriage ceemnoy of Leopold II and Maria Ludowicka in 1765.

This is the internal courtyard of the Hofburg, once the base of the Hapsburgs. You can visit the interior of these buildings, though we didn't bother, it was such a lovely day I didn't want to see stuffy indoor types of things.
In this courtyard you will also find the Cafe Sacher, if you feel the need to stop for Coffee & Cake (I do, I do).

The river Inn is a mighty, wide, fast flowing river, one of those rivers you just don't wanna mess with! And this is during a real heatwave at the end of summer. Imagine what the river is like in winter or as the snows melt! Great views across the river to the Nordkette range and the hillside suburbs of Innsbruck.
Café Munding
by flyfreak
... is another well-established Cafe-Konditorei in Innsbruck (the oldest in Innsbruck/Tyrol). Konditorei means pastry shop and you can expect self-made cakes and pastries.
The Munding can be found in the old part of the town, leaving the Golden Roof behind you, heading to the Maria-Theresien-street, the last little street of the Old Town will lead you to the Munding square and the Munding cafe.
