How to go Munchen(Munich) from Kufstein
by Leepeng
Hi!I am planning a trip to Austria & Germany in Oct 2010. Would like to know is there any bus service in between Kufstein-Munich. Details required: how long the travelling time? cost per person? how frequent the departures- earliest bus & last bus to Munich?
Also, please advise other mode of travel - I will be travelling in a group of 4.
Thank you & best regards, Lee Peng

I will check for bus info, but train is easy:
For train times, details and fares in English you can look at
http://www.bahn.com/i/view/overseas/en/index.shtml (German rail site)
or
http://www.oebb.at/en/
Kufstein > Munich takes about 1h 20m. Departures are half-hourly, standard one-way fare 17.10 euro (on the regional trains) according to bahn.de but more according to OBB (I do not understand this). You can buy tickets online easily from bahn.de
With that number of departures I doubt there will be a bus service as well, but I see what I can find.

The OeBB website actually doesn't give a price for this connection (although it gives the impression it does). Because it can't calculate the price for some reason it gives the standard lowest "Europa Special" price, which often is 39,-
The TCV price for this route is 21,- so that is probably what it will cost at the counter in Kufstein, and this ticket will be valid on all trains. Taking the RB is cheaper. Since Kufstein is a border station it's quite possible it also sells tickets priced in the DB domestic tariff, which is cheaper for RB trains.

Bayern-Ticket (Bavaria-Ticket)
Package price 28 EUR if you buy your ticket online or at the ticket machine. 30 EUR if you purchase your ticket at the Reisezentrum.
This ticket is valid from Monday to Sunday for one day of your choice from 9 a.m. until 3 a.m. of the following day on Saturday and Sunday and bank holidays from 0 a.m. until 3 a.m. of the following day. It can be used on all local trains (Interregio-Express, Regional-Express, Regionalbahn, S-Bahn) and the entire transport system in Bavaria as well as the Münchner Verkehrsbund (MVV) and Verkehrsverbund Nürnberg (VGN), Augsburger Verkehrs- und Tarifverbundes (AVV) and many more.
Bayern-Ticket is also valid from/to Kufstein and Salzburg in Austria.

Forgot to add...
The package price starts from 28 euros for up to 5 persons travelling together or for parents (or one parent) travelling with any number of their children under 15.

Looks like the train goes every hour and it takes approximately 1 1/2 hours. Buses aren't really used here for these such journeys. Buses mostly run from village to village so you would probably have to take 6 and would take forever. That's how they run around here. Train is the way to go for you. Here is the site I used. Under each city you choose put in hbf for where you are leaving from. It's the train station, hauptbahnhof.
One ticket covers all of you for one day.

KVB: thanks for the explanation. I didn't think bahn.de was wrong, so had no idea what was happening with the Austrian site! :-)

Kufstein or the Perl of Tirol
by Gizdavetz
My first stop in Tirol was in Kufstein, a town beautifully situated along the banks of the Inn river with a fortress overlooking the town.
It has a nice old town and some great pubs, you can sit, relax and enjoy the evening with your friends in one of the restaurants by the river.
