More about Hotel Sonnschein
Recently stayed at the Hotel Sonnschein on a business trip. The hotel was in a lovely location and suited our needs perfectly.
The English lady who runs the hotel was very friendly and helpful.
Our room was a suite which was very big.
It tends to be a hotel for coach tours, generally consisting of the older traveller. My only recommendation would be to eat out occassionally. The food was ok, but nothing special.
Top Class Hotel
Stayed at the Hotel Sonnschein for a weeks skiing. Although when we arrived the area was green and had no snow, we still had a great time. The snow did arrive, although was still a little icy under foot.
However the hotel was first class, room was nice and big, very clean and had everything you needed. Some guests said they had trouble with hot water, although we had boiling hot baths all week with no problems.
Food was very good, and the farmers buffett on Friday was a highlight. Drinks a little expensive in the hotel, was nothing too bad.
Would stay at the hotel again, as long as the snow arrives sooner!!
Loved the Sonnschein
Stayed at the Sonnschein for Christmas 2006. Very impressed, staff friendly and efficient, food good, rooms warm, comfortable and clean. What more could you wish for - yes, snow! Gill and her staff are to be complimented. Will definitely return to stay with them for Christmas 2007 - hope they can arrange for snow.

Great place to stay
Hotel and resort had everything to offer first time skiers like ourselves. Fortunately the snow arrived just in time which made our holiday. Hotel was very clean, well run and staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly. Ski school booked as part of the holiday (red ski school) was excellent as was the apres ski. No hestation in recommending the Hotel Sonnschein and resort of Neiderau for the beginner/ intermediate skier.
First Class Hotel and staff.
We have stayed at the Hotel Sonnschein for the last four years over the Christmas or New Year period. The hotel has always made the festivities very special and they are well run. The rooms are immaculate, very spacious and the staff attending the rooms very good indeed. On the one occasion we did have a small problem it was dealt with promptly and pleasantly. The bar staff and restaurant staff are very friendly and efficient, even when pressed by large numbers. Gill (the owner) and the reception staff are friendly and very helpful, always willing to help book taxis and excursions (I would recommend the sleigh ride - but wrap up very warm!!). The pool and spa are very good and the games rooms and internet cafe have been excellent for the younger members of our groups. We are so confident in the Sonnschein that we have returned taking with us family and friends, I would not hesitate in recommending it to anyone! We are already looking forward to going back next New Year.
I stayed at this hotel on a Christmas Market coach holiday. Yes, I am one of those annoying coach party members who seem to upset the independent traveller so much!
We were actually booked into Herbert and Gill's three star property down the road, so being upgraded to the Sonnschein was one heck of a bonus for the money we had paid. Added to this was a heavy snowfall, very unusual before Christmas, so all in all we were very lucky.
My cousin and I had a fabulous room in the new part of the hotel, with massive living/bedroom, lovely bathroom, separate WC and masses of wardrobe space. Our balcony had a view of snow covered trees and mountains - bliss! The room and linens were spotlessly clean.
As a coach party, we were given our own dining area. The food was varied and mostly very tasty. Dinner portions were not huge, but adequate. Food at breakfast was plentiful - just the thing to set us up for a hard day's Christmas shopping in Saltzburg and Innsbruck!
The staff worked very hard indeed and sometimes did seem a bit hard pressed to keep up with customer demands. Two more coach parties arrived after us, so it was a little crowded in the bar area at night.
But hey, I hadn't gone on holiday to booze the night away , so that didn't really bother me. A comfy bed at the end of day was my main consideration and in this (and most other) respects I would recommend the Hotel Sonnschein without reservation.
Great place to stay.
We stayed at the Hotel Sonnschein for Christmas 2006 and were a little worried by one review (if thats what it was) about this hotel. From the start we were very impressed with this hotel, everywhere was clean, the rooms were spotless. The food in the restuarant was excellent and we were served by staff that actually smiled. The staff behind the bar were also very helpful and friendly and got to know our room number after a couple of days much to my family's amusement. We couldn't find fault with this hotel, from breakfast thru to evening meal the food was excellent. So with reference to the non review of this hotel I cannot see how this hotel can be called "council". This is one of the friendliest hotels we have stayed in would reccomend everyone to stay there. We definately will and we will reccomend this to our friends anf family also.
hotel is very clean, staff are very friendly, food is magnificent and plentiful, has left a lasting memory of christmas for myself and my family. 1st class.
Forget this place. Its council.
TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't be bothered going into detail. If you want a base that you don't expect anything from, check in and get ripped off. If you want high quality, the Alpenpark or Kaltschmidt hotel in Seefeld are hotels that the Sonnschein wishes it was.
Heed our warnings.
We stayed at the Sonnschien in the last week of January... We booked on a last minute website and got an amazing deal so we did not expect the hotel to be as nice as it actually was!!
Our room was in the newer part of the hotel and was huge... very warm with a lovely bathroom- our bed was sooo comfortable and very big!
The food in the hotel was very nice- we enjoyed most nights and the farmers buffet was lovely. We would recommend eating out one night and the cheese fondue in the Hotel Austria is amazing!!!
The hotel is cosy and very warm- the staff seemed friendly and polite. Also the guests at the hotel were very nice too- we met some lovely people who arrived on the same night as well as a more senior couple who we sat next to at dinner... we spent some really nice evenings in the hotel bar just chatting with other people!!
As far as the resort goes; Niederau is very sweet! It is quite small and a little dated (eg lots of draglifts and a gondola from 1973!) but it is so so friendly- we met lots of really fun people in the cave bar (brilliant atmosphere with fab staff!) as well as at the little restaurant at the foot of the gondola.
One thing that any visitor to the area must do is a "Tandemflug"- this is like a paragliding trip where you are strapped to an instructor and you take flight from the side of the mountain- it is amazing!!! You can book this in their office which is opposite the cave bar and just down the road from the Sonnschien.
All in all I would recommend the Sonnschien and also Niederau for a really enjoyable ski holiday!
