Our rep told us that the old farmhouses are built with a cowshed at the rear as the cows help to keep the house warm in winter. Find time if you can to have a walk round the rural outskirts of St Johann - a real mix of old farmhouses and modern buildings, all very beautiful and neat.
the first part is straight up a paved path that serves several hoses, then you walk through the trees to a small shrine at Windegg. the cable car to Harschbichl is away to the east among more trees, but it is closed in October.
St Johann is a good place to go shopping - there are several boutiques selling beautiful clothes, different to what you'd get back home as well as shops for traditional tirolean costumes. Plenty of souvenir shops as well - almost bought this t-shirt as a warning for Richie if he visits many more beer halls ;-)
This was one of those little towns that we stopped in while we were driving to Salzburg from Munich.
The funniest this was when we stopped in one of the gift shops were had heard some music playing that we had heard live at a nightclub in Tenerife. The music was coming from a stuffed toy that even looked like the guy that was singing the song. The man in the shop told us that he was a local boy and was touring the world.
I guess it is truly a small world.
