Travel Tips for Bludenz

A short drive and cable car ride from Bludenz

by dabidc

It was cloudy in Bludenz as I took the bus up the Brandnertal valley to the cable car for the Lunersee. It was cool and there were a few other hardy folks planning to ascend to 1970 m to view the Lunersee, tucked in among the mountains, the Ratikon, on the border between Austria and Switzerland.

The ascent took us to a land of falling snow and a white world, not much visibility and little chance of some photos, but what the heck, let's go. Up umbrellas and away we go.

A contrast to the snow and cloud.

I look out for the unusual and this I thought was a picture you might prefer to the ones so far in cloud and snow.

I admit it I took a photo of a poster at the Cable car terminus. I like the contrastand it also may help you decide that all is not gloomy on the trail around the Lunersee.

Bludenz, valleys and mountains to explore.

"A town with character."

I have enjoyed three visits to Bludenz over the years and stayed at the Landhaus Mutter each time. Now it feels like I am one of the family.

A town of about 15,000 people along the road and rail line east from Lake Constance to The Arlberg and Tyrol.

It is built on the south facing hillside and has narrow streets to explore and steeper ones to climb to the cable car to the top of the Muttersburg and some wonderful views all around.

There are several places to visit in the nearby valleys from Lunersee past Brand, to Schruns and on to the Silvretta pass and eventually to Landeck.

Maybe there are more beautiful places or the mountains are higher somewhere else, or the other places are more fashionable. Well that is fine because Bludenz is my style. A little off the beaten path and enjoyable.
