Hundertwasser in a suburb of Feldkirch

by globetrott

RUEFF - Textildruckerei in Muntlix bei Feldkirch
is an early work of F.Hundertwasser
and its still a company that is printing on textiles, flags etc. and so you cannot enter the building, but of course you can take a look from outside. There is also no shop there, no Kiosk etc. like at other places with Hundertwasser-architecture.
Hundertwasser came first to this place in order to ask for printing some flags that he had designed for New Zealand. He wanted to have them printed in a special green, that did not exist untill then. He ordered 9.999 flags and offered to re-decorate the building of the Rueff-factory in exchange.
In the webpage below you can read all of the story, but unfortunately only in german.
Hundertwasser had asked the bosses of the Rueff-company: "How can you produce such wonderfull works of art in such an ugly building ?"
F.Hundertwasser used the self-ceated word "behübschen" for re-decorating old, ugly buildings. "hübsch" is the word for "pretty" in german and behübschen would then mean "making pretty"

-----------------------------------------------------
You will find this building in Muntlix, thats a suburb of Feldkirch / Vorarlberg, Zwischenwasser is another name of that village. You simply have to drive the road from the centre of Feldkirch in direction of Darmüls and the passroad.
Sometimes you might get the feeling you are lost, but finally you get to a bridge and after that bridge you turn to the left, driving along the tiny river and get to this place after about 300m.
At the bridge you will also see the sign for the village "Zwischenwasser", BUT not "Muntlix" !!!

Feldkirch, Austria

by anytimeanywhere

Feldkirch is in extreme western Austria, in the region of Vorarlberg, on the border with Liechtenstein, and about 45 min by train from Bregenz, 1hr 45min from Zurich and about 6-9hrs from Vienna, depending on the train. I fell in love with it immediately. It has all you could want in a old Austrian town and more. There are still parts of the old city wall, especially the towers, and it has the madatory castle, Schattenberg over looking the city.

The city is very walkable in a hour or two, the tourist office will give you a walking tour to see the points of interest. I found the city to be extremely charming, especially in the winter , when there is a bit of snow on the ground. There were still some Chirstmas decorations up in mid-January when I was there; that just added to the experience.

The Alstadt, old town, is filled with little streets and beautiful buildings with painted on scenes and very well kept. The Rathaus has scenes of people and images important to the history of Feldkirch painted on. You can see a bit of it on the left of this picture.

The River Ill (ill) runs through the city and, while not a roaring river, it just puts a pretty final touch on on of my favorite European cities that I have been to.

FELDKIRCH

by elcolibri

Feldkirch is the first city near the border of Liechtenstein. It is a very attractive typically old-time town and has a castle in the middle and arcaded streets with many houses from the 15th century up. Almost all of them are kept in good condition and the city is walkable and with very good transportation. In this beautiful town live in any moment James Joyce and Arthur Conan Doyle and Thomas Mann used it to his famous novel "The Magic Mountain".

It's All Over Now
(Shirley and Bobby Womack)

Baby used to stay out
all night long
She put me down
When she did me wrong
She hurt my eyes open
That’s no lie
Tables turned
Now it’s her turn to cry

Because I used to love her
But it’s all over now

She used to hang around
With every man in town
Spent all my money
Trying to play that highclass-game
Put me down
What a pity how I cried
Table turned
Now it’s her turn to cry

Because I used to love her
But it’s all over now

I used to wake up in the morning
Have my breakfast in the morning
When ever I got worried
She would rub my aching head
Now she’s here and there
With every man in town
Still trying to take me
For that same old clown

Because I used to love her
But it’s all over now
