Free public transport for children

by Dmitry44

Hi!
I found here:
http://www.wienerlinien.at/wl/ep/programView.do/channelId/-17256/programId/11068/pageTypeId/10220

that:
"Children under age of six travel free on Vienna´s public transport network. Children under the age of fifteen travel free on Sundays, public holidays and during Vienna school holidays."

We are going to be in Vienna from Dec 29 till Jan 03. My son - 12 years old. Will it be school holidays? Is it included subway?

Re: Free public transport for children

by globetrott

Wienerlinien includes all transport like trams, buses, metro, (+ the S-bahn and even the Badnerbahn INside Vienna)
Badnerbahn is the blue tram from the Opera to Baden in the south of Vienna and untill the citylimits of Vienna it is included as well
Schoolholidays are between at least from Dec.24th till Jan. 6th
sometimes 1-2 days might be added at weekends, But its never less than that !

Travel Tips for Vienna

Schon Schonbrunn

by Veroali

The imerial family could not chose more beautiful chateu as their summer residence. The yellow colour is wonderful and contrasting with green and colorful flowers everywhere around. I guess it contrasts perfectly, because in winter unfortunately we haven't seen much. We had a look inside. There are 3 tours, it begins with a tour for 35 minutes and costs 14 euros (don't remember exactly). So if you have time, we recommend it.

Beeing a person with order in...

by Tanechka

Beeing a person with order in life, I mean :order in house, work, ets. sometimes I find out that I need to touch a disorder, something my brain can't explaine or understand to the end, but by the same time something natural. In Vienna such place is Kunsthouse Wien Hundertwasser - house that not corresponding to the usual clishes and norms a journey to the land of creative architecture.

A park Right in the middle of a town

by imran8852

Schwechater Stadtpark...One of the very nice parks in Schwechat and very near to the apartment we stayed in. Honestly, If you are a nature lover, Wien can never be boring for you because there is a blends of modern life with nature, shopping and more.

To get to Schwechater Stadtpark, take the train S7 from wien landstrasse to schwechat, walk up the sendnergasse to hauptplatz, cross hauptplatz, enter loewengasse and follow the way to the park.

Street Graben

by Skipka

Street Graben -as I have read- means "Drain" and it sounds really funny if you think about the centre of a town. :) For natives it shoudl be the place where all tourists should dissapear >:)... well, but Street Graben is the core of the old centre connecting the Stephansdom to Hofburg in general. Dominant of this street is pestiferous pole familiarly called Trinity pole. It is baroque 21 m high pole built thanks to the promise of Emperor Leopold to the Lord when black death hit Vienna in 1679. The first sillhouette of the pole appeared in the same year and it is a work of more masters such as Matthias Rauchmiller, J. B. Fischer of Erlach and finally in 1693 Lodovico Burnacini has seen it finished. The statue of kneeled Emperor created Paul Strudel (maybe also the apple strudel is named according to him :))and statue of St Trinity created Johann Kilian.

Zentralfriedhof - Soviet War graves

by yooperprof

Another part of the Zentralfriedhof features row after row of Soviet War Graves - soldiers who died in the final push through Austria in the spring of 1945. Try to ignore the banal quotes from Stalin, and concentrate on the impression of an entire generation raked by war.
