Flair Hotel Altstadt Vienna
by jheller about Flair Hotel Altstadt Vienna
From the hotelwebsite: A carefully renovated patrician house accomodates the small four-star hotel, which lays stress on personalised first-class service. Feel yourself at home because you are at home. Each of the 25 rooms and the 4 appartements is exquisitely decorated and has a touch of the past. All the rooms have been designed to meet individual needs, none of them are alike. The guestrooms are partly located in a quiet sorounding and with a beautifull view over Vienna. The size of the rooms is from 25 to 35 sqm, the appartements range from 50 to 80 sqm. The red salon will be prepared for your breakfast in the morning and you may join the cosy atmosphere of the open fireplace with a drink in the evening.
In this case, every word they say is true! The building used to be the house of a Professor Doktor who is commemorated with a plague in the hotel wall (see picture).
Boutique hotel in Vienna's oldest district
by EvaLuna67 about Hotel Altstadt Vienna
Art – combined with old fashioned charm and uniqueness! A carefully renovated patrician house from the 19th century accommodates the 4-star hotel, which is located in one of Vienna’s oldest districts, the Spittelberg. It offers both, a historic ambiance and a close location to the city. Charming hotel in a very unique location - yet within walking distance of the Museumsquartier.

My wife and I spent two nights at the Altstadt Vienna during February 2005. The Hotel Management had decided to take most employees on an incentive trip to Venice. Friends had agreed to manage the place during their absence. Guests were notified of this in a friendly letter and some compensation in the form of free drinks was being offered.
As it turned out the service provided by "friends" was extremely efficient, friendly and professional. Other guests assured us that this was standard at the Altstadt Vienna and that the regular staff "on leave" was as servie oriented as the "friends". A place to be remembered and we shall return!
Clean room, high celinings, good deal...

Good location, but make sure you get the correct street... there is another street with similar name a few blocks away. Service was very friendly... twin room was very clean and quiet.
The name belies its 'hipness'

The Altstadt is a very cool hotel. The interior is funky and fun without being silly or precious. The art is great. The rooms are large and comfortable. The staff is wonderful - helpful and accomodating with each request. And if your are lucky, you'll meet the owner - a charming and very funny man. Be sure to get his little green book restaurant guide. We had two wonderful meals on their recommendation. The hotel is only a short walk to the main tourist areas.
Highly recommended!
Excellent Altstadt

I stayed at the Altstadt for six nights on the basis of previous reviews, and was not disappointed. The decor may not be old world but the rooms are spacious, well-appointed and the location is perfect for the restaurant district of Spittelberg and close to the centre. Even in this most polite of cities, the staff are exceptionally friendly and courteous.
Average - boy do they need to sort out airconditioning

Had a long weekend at the hotel - location great, staff friendly and helpful, breakfast room lovely, but boy does it get hot in those rooms. We were dieing in the heat at night, it really soured our first full day in the city, having slept for all of a couple of hours due to the discomfort.
The rooms are fine, though not quite the design heaven that some of the reviews would lead you to believe. Our room was nice and clean, large enough, but one would expect if you are going to go down the route of hip trendy guests a smarter TV, CD, DVD type entertainments system. Shower room not a bathroom, and limitied faciltiies for the business traveller/or modestly demanding weekend traveller.
Breakfast is fine, though again, compare with what you get in places like K&K hotels or Melia its about a third of what they offer in terms of range - but fine all the same.
The area is wonderful, food and bars all over the place and very reasonable.
try a suite

booked the bosendorfer suite (very very reasonably priced), so called because it comes complete with a pristine Bosendorfer Grand Piano.
The room was just superb, high ceilings, enormous, Bang and Olufsen CD
from the outside, it doesnt look so great, but really is a great option - well located as well

Arrived by train from Salzburg- Taxi to hotel. Carrying large luggage so frist impressions were not great. Small entrance into hotel, reception on first floor. Lift very small, room for one only person and luggage at one time. Door to reception smaller again had to leave luggage on stairwell.
Greeted by pleasant person who directed us to third floor twin room- no help with luggage. Back into elevator one at a time to arrive at room you couldn't swing a cat in, (not happy Jan as had booked going on recommendations on trip advisor and website).
Rang reception and informed them of our disatification and was then moved to double room which was large enough to place our luggage in, although we had share a bed. Shower room was what you might call a closet. Staff offered to move us to a suite at same price for our last evening, although we declined this the staff were more than happy to accomodate a guest for the evening at late notice.
Stayed three nights- breakfast room light and airy although breakfast was not comparable with other hotels we had stayed in over the previous month, adequate.
Staff were friendly and offered assistance with restaurants although the restaurant we picked on the first evening was booked out.
Lounge area was comfortable to retreat to after a long day of sightseeing, although second evening it was closed due to private function (not happy Jan I was looking forward to nice up of tea!) Internet was not operational either (virus)
All in all location was not too bad, don't know about walking distance after long day sightseeting(we walked into the city). Staff apoliged for website inaccuracies and explained a new page was being developed.

What places of interest should I visit in Vienna?
by travelger
It might not be the greatest time to visit (cold....) but what are the places I should not miss? I only have a weekend to spare :( as I have to catch a late evening flight from Munich back home.
Which hotels (4-star) I should consider? I would prefer one which is centrally located...near to the train stations

no worries - Vienna is also great in Winter. Check out Hotel Altstadt Vienna: a great little boutique hotel in the 7th district. You have amazing restaurants closeby and you are in walking distance to the Museumsquartier (great museums, bars, restaurants, cafes) - also a favorita hang-out for Viennese. While in Vienna def go and have a coffee at a traditional coffeehouse (my favorite is Cafe Sperl in the 6th district). If your visit is closer to x-mas time don't miss x-mas market, have mulled spiced wine from a street vendor and roasted chestnuts. You'll see you'll have a blast.

Hi Go to the Museum sector, you will be warm inside and the buildings are magnificent. Visit the Sissi Apartments, well worth seeing, and next door is the famous horse display,go to Demel for morning or afternoon tea, take a concert in the evening etc etc. You are welcome to view my Vienna pages to gain more ideas.
good luck
