Get out and see Vienna
by jonbarb709
There was so much to see and do in Vienna that I am just going to make a list of things we enjoyed and who knows you may also.
- Stephansdom - Cathedral, most prominent landmark.
-- Definitely go to the Catacombs here. Just unbelievable
-The Belvedere Museum, - vast gardens, summer residence, lots of art work.
-Hundertwasserhaus - apartments painted all different colors, worth a trip.
-Schonbrunn Palace - gardens, museum, residence.
-Naschmarket - got to go, more than just a flea market.
-Votivkirche Church - overwelming.
-Kapuzinergruft - 12 emperors and 19 empresses here in the crypt.
- Misikfilmfest - we just happened to be there during this fantastic festival.
-Haas and Haas Teehaus - near Stephansdom, in an old convent. Fondest memory is just walking around Vienna. Get a map, wherever you go will be a treat. St. Stephans Plaza, The Opera area, "The Rings" around the town. Put good shoes on and walk. Then stop for a glass of wine or tea at any number of places in Vienna.
Gustav Klimt's Portrait of Sonja Knipps
by y2ketan2007
My favourite painting by the greatest painter ever - Gustav Klimt. His most famous painting is 'The Kiss'. I consider the subject of this painting , the wife of a businessman during Klimt's time as the most beautiful woman of all time. The painting can be found in Vienna's Belvedere museum.'The Kiss' is also in the same museum.
Vienna in Winter
by BorneoGrrl
I think the best attraction in winter here is the Christmas Market or Christkindlmärkte. Vienna is turned into a fairytale fantasyland where trees & streets are lighted up with bright lights. At the Christmas markets, little shops are set up selling all sorts of holiday goodies e.g food, drink, toys, crafts. Try the Glühwein, a warm sweetened wine or buy some roasted maroni nuts.
When it snows, the city is blanketed by a white sheet which makes it look very romantic. It can get very cold though, I've walked outside in -10°C temperature. Sometimes when it's humid, it can get even colder. Daylight is also limited to 6-8 hours so maximize your time if you want to visit many places like the parks.

Die Graben, the square where the cathedral is located. Full of cafés, 'Konditorei' (places that sell pies and sweets), restaurants and shops. It's the most central place in Vienna, and always full of people and tourists.
Coffee History
by klj&a
Legend has it that coffee beans were left behind by fleeing Turks, but it took a year for the Viennese to figure out that they were to be used for coffee. Don’t know if this is true, but that’s what we were told. When ordering a coffee in a Viennese Kaffeehaus, you will receive it along with a glass of water. Mocca doesn’t mean coffee and chocolate, it means dark coffee. Melange is very similar to Cappuccino.
