vienna Fares and Tickets

by sotir81

If i take the regular train from the airport to the city or vice versa. In that case i have to pay for one additional zone. If already have a 24-hour ticket that means i need to buy an extra single ride ticket?

Thanks a lot

yes, when you have a valid ticket of Zone100, thats the normal area of Vienna , then you just need 1 extra ordinary ticket (=1,80 one way)for the 2 stations from airport to Zone100.
AND its important to stamp it BEFORE you enter the metro, S-bahn etc.!!!
same thing when you go with 2 single tickets(in case you dont have 24hourticket already): stamp them BOTH at the same time before you enter the train !

Travel Tips for Vienna

Using Vienna's Tourist Sevices.

by Ekaterinburg

The city maps delivered to hotels, guesthouses etc are the most practical guides to Vienna you will use. Guidebooks obviously supply more detailed info but the 'City Map and Museums' by Vienna Info was the definitely the most helpful source I had while I was in the city. There are two easy to follow maps, and information about almost every attraction. More importantly, this information is bang up to date in terms of opening hours, admission prices and transport hints. I carried this with me everywhere and left the heavy books for research in the evenings. This saves a lot of weight in terms of what you are lugging around all day.

The Tourist Information Office at Albertina was the one I used for all my queries, stocking up on leaflets brochures etc. The staff are very helpful and you can get details of absolutely everything that's currently happening.

Tourist Info has a special leaflet dealing with safety tips for visitors to Vienna. A practical aspect to this is the list of telephone numbers and contacts in the event of theft, lost documents etc. Loss or theft of any of your belongings can be tracked, once reported to the to the police, on the website

Visit the Secession museum and take some time looking at the Beethoven vries by Gustav Klimt. It is one huge painting that covers three walls, and I spent more than one hour looking at it, twice! The building is also worth a close look if you like Jugendstil! the excellent Wiener Kaffeehäuser where they serve you coffee with a glas of water and where you can sit for hours and hours just enjoying the athmosphere...

Michaelerplatz - Neptune Fountain

by yooperprof

Flanking either side of the Hofburg wing at Michaelerplatz are fountains celebrating Habsburg military glory. Facing "In Der Burg" on your right in the fountain honoring Austria's navies: Neptune cavorts with a host of other divinities and mortals. Considering that now Austria is a landlocked nation, you may be surprised at the numerous Neptune fountains to be found in Vienna (the most famous is at Schonbrunn). Of course, at one time Austria did have a presence on the Adriatic coast: Venice and Trieste were its ports. And Neptune is just naturally an excellent subject for a fountain.

What in the world?

by Packerman

The Haashaus building obviously sticks out to any tourist as being unusual, especially since it is smack dab in the middle of historical Vienna right next to St. Stephans Cathedral. I'm glad it is there, I like variety and a sense of the unconventional. Actually it is nice because it reflexs the other buildings around it.
