 | | | | Austria Trend Hotel Ananas: The Fruitiest Hotel in Vienna | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
This lovely 4 star hotel was part of a weekend city break package I booked with Travelocity. It had a kind of Art Nouveau look about it and it was centrally situated on Pilgramgasse, a short U-Bahn ride from Wien-Mitte. The staff were friendly and helpful but oh my goodness they were busy. I guess I should have expected that on a weekend in August. There were three lifts and there was always a long wait. They were always full of Italian tourists, or hotel staff with trolleys of laundry or stuffed wth 5 or 6 suitcases.... if I had ever found the stairs I would have taken them.. it was that busy all the time - except very late at night.
I had a lovely view, my room was small, ensuit and came complete with minibar and cable TV. It was 127E per night (about 86GBP) - although as I booked as part of a package so it wasn't that much. There were three restaurants - self service - always busy in the mornings with staff rushing round with HUGE baskets of bread rolls, clearing tables refilling coffee pots etc etc. There was an enormous selection of breakfast things - scrambled eggs, sausages, various breads, rolls, meats, cheeses, jams, fruit, cereal, fruit juices, tea (herbal, black, breakfast etc etc) and coffee. The choices just went on and on. I just wanted toast - but never saw a toaster. I'm not complaining though. The Reception staff did get a little irate with some guests who just don't understand the *wait quietly in the queue until it's your turn* system which is found in most civilised societies. While I was having my query dealt with, a guy just butted right in and asked a question. The receptionist gave him such a disgusted look ... and said *just wait your turn! - I am dealing with this lady!!* He slunk away with his tail between his legs!! The hotel had a couple of expensive gift shops which are best avoided. The things they sell can be bought for cheaper elsewhere. | | | | Pension Madara: A good place to sleep | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
I found this Pension, via friends of my parents, who came to Vienna for the Uefa-Cup game between Austria Wien and Club Brugge. I booked my room via internet. This Pension is located in the Alser strasse. For me this location was just perfect, as the Underground station (U-Bahn) was very near by (5 minutes on foot), and even the historical part of the city (Rathausplatz) was within walking distance. The friendly lady of the pension gave, me a set of 3 keys (front door, pension door and room), like this it was easy to walk in and out, day and night. The room was small but very clean, and to be honest it was big enough for just one person, also when you visit a cultural city like Vienna, you only return to the pension, to shower and to sleep. The facilities (toilet and shower) were in the room. Breakfast was included; the koningsemmeln just tasted great (with ham, cheese, jam, honey or choco paste), orange juice, coffee or tea. And the room costed . . . 38 euro/night (I must say that I booked well in advance, as now the price was raised at 40 euro). They accept Visa and Mastercard credit cards.
