Ibis Wein Messe: Safe and Easy in Vienna   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • This hotel is located about 3km from the city centre, only a few minutes walk to one of the main train stops. Room was clean and big enough for a few nights, with all mod cons.

Ibis hotels are the same everywhere, so you know what to expect - safe tourist class accommodation

  • The name Mercure is a guarantee of good quality, and you will not be disappointed. Among the services you will find here are a beauty salon, hairdresser, newspaper shop, florist and a delicatessen shop. An aficionado of the Mercure chain may find it comparatively small, but this is due to its location in a small street of the city centre.

The location is ideal for those who want to live the city by day and also by night. In fact it is close to the Bermuda Triangle, the area of Vienna where the nights are more lively. For the day-time tours, most of the main monuments are at walking distance, and for the other ones the underground and tram station of Schwedenplatz is conveniently near.

    In the morning
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • As the after dawn rays spread across the newly fallen snow people emerged from their dwellings on their morning sabbatical. Some came with animals, as in this picture, some came alone, some came with partners all trudging through the calf deep crystals. The gardens of the palace are there for all the people, not just those staying at the hotel.

History 2 - In 1785, in gratitude for the charity of its owner, the people rename the "Predigtstuhl" to "Galitzinberg". 1795 - The duke dies and the count of Romanzow inherits. 1824 - Julius, Duke Montleart, and his wife Maria buy the properties and castle which are in need of restoration. 1838 - The building has two wings added. 1865 - The Duke dies and the property is up for sale. His son wins the bid and hands it to his wife Wilhelmine as a present which is obviously where today's name came from.

  • We stayed at this hotel three years ago in 2001. At the time, I had only been to Vienna once and had stayed at a hostel on that trip so I didn't really know what to look for in a hotel. The only downside to this hotel was the location. We are definitely taxi people and took taxis back and forth to the center, as it took us about 15 minutes to walk it. The rooms were clean, however, and about average size.

There aren't really any amenities to this hotel, as it is basically a tourist class hotel, but I do recall that the breakfast was decent. The one thing that I came away with feeling strongly about was the helpfulness of the staff. They were great and even helped me and my travel partner book a day tour to Budapest that picked us up at the hotel. All the rooms have private bath/WC, direct-dial-telephone, cable-TV, minibar, a kettle with free coffee and tea and airconditioning. Suites (with kitchenette) and family rooms available on request.

I quote here from my Emails:- THE HOTEL - Ever wondered what it’s like to stay in a genuine chateau style castle in an historical city, albeit converted for modern use, resplendent on a hilltop overlooking sumptuous acres of park/garden/vineyard/forest? Ever wondered what it’s like to overlook the view as the tissue soft white velvet flakes of a late season snowfall caress the boughs and feather their way to earth? Ever wondered what it’s like to take breakfast in a chandeliered cavernous room with rococo-style walls, polished floors, finest linen and cutlery and a glorious array of fine foods? Talk to me, I’ll tell you all about it. Been there, done that!

Trolling the internet I had lobbed onto this gorgeous bit of architecture situated on the hills outside Ottakring. Full well knowing it would be expensive I nonetheless enquired the price.

  • One of the difficult phases while travelling to Vienna is getting a accommodation. There are plenty of beautiful hotels in the city and their prices vary very drastically. One thing you need to remember when travelling to Vienna, nothing is cheap there and hotels are no exclusion.

Hotel Mate Dependance: Well...the staff were nice...   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The staff at this hotel were very pleasant. Our room was...terrible. We were in the attic so-to-speak and the one dormer window was so high up that we could just peak out and see the roof of the building across the street. The beds were...okay....the decor was...non existant. The amenities...what amenities? The free breakfast...was fairly good. You know I really don't like to write bad reviews about the place - YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! And this place was worth every penny I spent and not a cent more. It's a good cheap and clean hotel if that's what you're looking for.

What was unique was that the staff accidentally gave our room away while we were in Salzburg and when we came back they were booked solid. So the lovely staff sent us to the sister hotel. Hotel Mate...and...gave us a huge suite at no extra cost! Now that's what I call UNIQUE!!

    And then there's the view
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • As a wintry sun tried desperately to cast an evening glow on the landscape the colours softened in the dull afterglow. Peering from my window I thought this must be one of the best views in all of Vienna and it was all happening outside my window.

A potted history - part 1 In 1781 Field Marshall Franz Moritz, Count of Lascy, acquired the fields of Ottakring and commenced building a castle. 1784 - The Russian ambassador to Vienna, Demetrius Michalowitsch, Duke of Galitzin buys the property and later adds some other parts of the surrounding forests donated by the local community. He remodels the entire property into a beautiful part with some small ponds, a church and a simulated Roman ruin.

Hotel Mate Dependance: Good and relatively cheap !   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Several times friends and family have stayed there, as it is reatively near to my neighborhood and central at the same time. Located in the northwestern part of Vienna with convenient access to the centre. Mate Dependance is close (5 minutes) to tram (Line 43) or Metro ( U 6 station "Alserstrasse"10 minutes) The hotel offers also good food, meeting rooms and even a small indoor-pool.

Acceptable rooms, rather quiet neighborhood, some small restaurants and a vast vegetable-market within walking-distance. For Vienna relatively acceptable prices.(starting from EUR 45,- depending on the season) The price quoted is for a doubleroom (2 persons) See map in picture #4 !
