Budget accomodation.

by Maurizioago

I'm looking for a cheap room in Vienna. I could spend around 40/45 euro for a single room. Do you have any suggestion?

Thanks.

When are you going? The price will definitely depend on the time of year that you are there.

Re: Budget accomodation.

by Maurizioago

I'm going there from 17 to 27 may.

Try this site www.booking.com). Key in Vienna and your dates. There is one on this page called Hotel Congress or something similar which at that time will be 50 Euros per night. I don't think you will get anything cheaper unless you go for shared facilities or a hostel maybe. I can recommend the Hotel Kolbeck which in 2007 in May was 45 Euros but I don't know what it would be now. When I went back to Vienna last year in September, the Kolbeck was more than twice that price.

That's great. Check my tip in my Vienna pages. It is a really good hotel for the money.

I stayed at this place;
http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/HappyHostel/Vienna/5226

My mother and I had a twin room, you share the lounge, bathroom and kitchen with another room. It was great for us, meaning we didn't have to go out for breakfast and dinner every day.
We found it very central, though we do like to walk a lot, that's how we got round the city.
Their single room (not en-suite) is 35 Euro per night, you get free internet in the office downstairs.

Travel Tips for Vienna

Melange

by mydreamquest

Melange is one kind of coffee you can order and it is delicious with desserts. This is my melange and ice cream I ate over by the Schonbrunn Palace. Although it is a long uphill walk to get to this overpriced cafe to eat, it's worth the view on a nice summer Vienna day. My fondest memory of Vienna was walking around the Stephansdom U-station. It's debateably touristy but it has a charm about it; even had a very good sushi restaurant.

Copa Kagrana

by Zo72

During summer part of Vienna situated near Danube becomes very lively, especially in the evening. Vienese call this place Copa Kagrana as parallel to Copa Cabana (Kagran is northern suburb of Vienna).

There are many places to dance or have a drink. Some of these places are on rafts. If you catch weekend with no rain, then this is a good place to visit in the evening. Watching Southamericans dance in some place under open skies near Danube. Beauty of women was stunning, and the way they danced was so natural and attracting.

6th district - Mariahilf

by pakistanibrain

The inner Mariahilfer Street (in German: Mariahilfer Strasse) is the largest shopping street of Vienna. All the international brands of clothing, shoes and luxury items are available here. This street is also home to three McDonalds restaurants. The Mariahilfer Strasse starts at the Ring, the street that surrounds the 1st district (Vienna's city center). At Westbahnhof (Vienna's largest railway station) the inner Mariahilfer Strasse ends. The outer Mariahilfer Strasse is not within Mariahilf and is also not really part of the "shopping area" anymore.

Mariahilf (that's how the 6th district is called is literally centered all around the Mariahilfer Strasse. There's not much apart from that in this district.

Famous "Opern Confiserie" has moved !

by WStat

The famous sweets-shop "Opern Confiserie" in Kaerntnerstrasse 47 near the Opera and Hotel Sacher has been closed and moved to Hietzing (near Schoenbrunn Castle) as "Park Confiserie" in Hietzinger Hauptstrasse 6, phone 876 60 12. They sell exactly the same sweets like Opern Confiserie did!
Hope, that helps!
PS:and confirmed the above by phone a few moments ago!

Monument capital

by William1982

Vienna seems to be the monument capital of the world. They seem to be everywhere around the ringstrasse and within every palace and gardens. Guess they've got a lot of history to celebrate then??? Not sure who these three are though???

Oh, and as for the heroes, if a statue of a person on a horse has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle; if the horse has one front leg in the air, the person died as a result of wounds received in battle; if the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of natural causes.
