just 2 Euros for Netrebko & Co.

by globetrott about Staatsoper

Tickets for the STANDING-places
in Staatsoper are just 2 euros and there are also some better ones for 3,50 euros and there are lots of them available for each and every performance !
Every day there is a different program (take a look at the link below !!) and 1 hour +20 minutes before the performance will start, you are able to buy the tickets for the standing-places. In case that Anna Netrebko or any other famous star is part of the ensemble that night, it might make sense to queue up for the standing-places maybe 2 hours before the performance starts. The counter to buy tickets for "STEHPLATZ" is in OPERNGASSE, inside the Oper, so be there IN time, and you will get one of these cheap tickets ! The door of Staatsoper in Operngasse will open just 80 minutes before the performance starts, BUT you may queue up in front of the door, under the arcades of the Oper !
------
Just to make it clear :The main entrance of the Opera is at RING-strasse. When you look at the Opera from Ringstrasse you have Kaerntner-Strasse and Herbert von Karajan-Platz at your right, that is where the souvenir-shops, the ticket-office and Opern-Cafe is and Hotel Bristol etc..
On your LEFT is Operngasse, the street leading towards the Albertina :
THERE is that small door, under the arcades of the Opera, and it will have a small signpost "Stehplatz-Kasse" Come as you are, no shorts of course, but anything else is fine !

PICTURESQUE ISCHGL.

by GrantBoone

We stayed one night in Ischgl , a small ski resort in the Alps. Driving through a blizzard at about 7pm we suddenly came across this beautiful corner of Austria.

Moserwirt - Bad Goisern

by nhcram

The food here was typical of most restaurants we found in the region. The Wiener Schnitzel was good as was the self serve salad buffet. The service was good and we were not rushed to leave even though we had finished our meal and stayed in the restarant talking to friends.

The Imperial City: VIENNA

by Hosell

"Hofburg Palaces"

I just returned one day ago of a ten days guided tour in three countries of Europe.I've visited many nice places in Germany,Switzerland and Austria.

In some of places visited I just been very short time, this is the worse of this kind of guided tours, lucky that we stayed three nights and two full days at Austria capital,Vienna.Unfortunatelly I didn't had the time to see everything that this beautiful city has too offer,I just saw some of most important places in the city.

Vienna was the capital of Austro-Hungarian Empire for many years,so here you can see a lot of beautiful palaces and nice buildings of that age.I'll show you on this page just the places that I seen during my short visit.

Vienna To Prague Trains

by MellySmelly

Could someone let me know what are the train fares from Vienna To Prague. I would also like to know the frequency of these trains.

Thanks,
Mel Picardo

I don't have fare info, but direct trains run from Vienna Suedbahnhof to Prague 5 times per day, including a night train. Day trains take roughly 4 hours -- the night train takes 6 1/2 hours.

Hi Last Sept we went Vienna to Prague by Train, a very good trip, we travelled first class and the cost was US$79 per person, however you do not have to travel 1st Class, we got on second class thinking it was first, and had to move. I am certain there would still be a cheaper class. Have a look at my VT page for transport tip.
good luck, Mikebb

A round trip ticket 2nd class costs EUR 86; if you travel with another person, there`s also an option called "City star ticket" -a roundtrip ticket for 2 persons will cost only EUR 110 (EUR 55 p.p.) then. You have to book this at least 3 days before your departure to Prague.

Hi.

For a cheaper option you may take a bus-shuttle departing from Erdberg Station
going to Florenc Station in Prague. The ride lasts for about 4 hours.
Depends on when you want to go, it's snowing again (in spring!!), so it might
take you longer by bus.
The fare would be only about 40 Euros TWO-WAY per person.

Have fun!

Hi Mel,

Looks like you got some good info on the frequency and general costs. Have you made reservations? If so, where/how did you purchase the tickets? I'm doing the same trip in May and don't see a way to buy in advance unless I use RailEurope.

Thanks,
Lucy

MOVING FROM SPAIN TO ENGLAND

by blissgirl

dear all at VT,

after five long, hot years in almeria, spain, i am moving back HOME to manchster, england in late june/early july 2004.

can anyone recommend a CHEAP way to move 4 teachests, TV, PC and maybe, if there's more space, a couple of bedframes, the washingmachine + fridge?

ideally i'd like to find someone travelling in a private van who would take me, and i'd pay a fair share of petrol, ferry, motorway sandwiches....

any tips are welcome, www'sites, cheap removal co's, or man+van contacts.

thanks a lot,
and happy travelling........
